You’re probably right with Willingham, the coordinators, and the AD, but not the support staff and such.

The problem with those really highly paid folks is they highly spend to make up for the high paying salaries. Not a lot of bargain shopping or coupon clipping amongst head coaches and their families. When was the last time a WVU head football coach lived in 2500 sf house with a 2 car garage with a Silverado & a Camry in the garage? More like a 7000 sf house and a 6 car garage with an Olympic sized pool (and a Grato), tennis & full basketball courts, sitting on the lake with the party boat. For their sake they better have a good 6 month emergency fund on standby.

My dad preached this a lot. He would say if youre making $50K and lose your job, you can probably find a way to get by...but if you are making $250K and living that high end lifestyle and lose your job, then you are going to be screwed.

These coaches move around so much I wonder if they ever make money when they sell their homes. The colleges arent all located in area with home prices that jump noticeably each year.

One of my favorite financial books I’ve ever read is a by the late Dr Tom Stanley (sadly killed by a drunk driver) called “Stop Acting Rich...... & start living like a real millionaire” The book is a follow up to his more better known “The Millionaire Next Door”. He details so much about those with higher incomes but lower net worths and those with lower incomes with higher net worths. I figure amongst some It is a spend spend spend mentality to “keep up with the Jones’s” and for what????

As Warren Buffet once said, “you can tell who’s been skinny dipping when the tide goes out!” I wish those furloughed the best.
