Tell me you expected stardom based on the rating, without saying it. I said from when h. committed that the guy had work to do and he proved me right. If he stayed he may have been bo better than any of the transfers they brought in considering Nebraska didn’t use him much.

He made the right decision. His defense wasn’t any better as a sophomore so he wouldn’t have been an upgrade over the Tyson / Dercack combo at that time.

This is ridiculous. He was a freshman. Fan expectations were stupid, not his play as a freshman. He was a struggling freshman on a poor team.

He was a top 25ish recruit. It's not unreasonable to expect that type of Freshman to at least be a solid backup on a B10 team. He was borderline unplayable.

If you ever saw him or watched him play you knew he wasn't a top 25 recruit. Dude was so thin preseason that year you could see through him.

The guy had a 40% fg% and was 52% from the line. Not very good especially considering he played for a mid major

I agree that he's got a good all round game for the HS level but we know the B1G is very physical and a few guys will outmuscle him at both ends as a freshman. Not everyone is going to agree with this until play starts but we did see it at times with Simpson and certain guards this year. Maybe it'd be less of a concern if RU was in a different conference where it is more wide open play style.

The interesting thing in all this back and forth on Gavin has been when he was the 30th ranked player and a 4* no one was talking about him being 1 and done. Then he moves up 10 spots in the rankings to 20th but also gets an extra star and suddenly he has to be one and done according to many...lol.

The player hasn't changed, just your perceptions of him.

The higher up a recruit is ranked the greater the scrutiny they receive. Not sure why you are creating that narrative here with a Top 50 recruit.

Our only exposure to Gavin was one game against an overmatched team at the RAC. I think too many took what he did in that one game and made it their baseline without seeing him play against better competition. Just my two cents.

I don't know what to tell some of you guys questioning why Gavin isn't some stud taking college basketball by storm. A number of us said he's a freshman you got to give them time but all you did was point to the ranking as though that justified your viewpoint.

He's going to be a work in process and get better as the year goes on. That's why the one & done talk was nonsensical.

Yes and no, if we're being honest. He's seriously deficient as a defender which is going to limit his minutes more in conference play. Don't really know what weaknesses these other guys have.

We probably should revisit this in late January and see how much has changed in terms of minutes and PPG.

We need Gavin on the floor and the best way for that to happen is for him to steadily improve his on ball defense.

I was one of the few that said he had things to work on when he got here including putting on some real bulk. But the hype train on this board left the station once he got that 5th star and some were claiming he was a sleeper 1 and done. But it's not always easy for some to put on muscle without a dedicated S&C plan & even then it can still be a challenge.
