Cue the Freeze rumors. He just signed a long-term fully guaranteed extension at Liberty, though.

And most thought he was a good choice after his success at Boise State. There are no guarantees in picking coaches.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't think he'd be good. Wasn't horribly confident, but still thought he'd be at least okay.

If Deion was going to make the jump to the big time - Auburn is basically a perfect fit for him. There are a handful of big schools where I think his schtick would work as a head coach, and that's one of them. You could guarantee top 5 recruiting classes every year (because the fanbase will pay anything to challenge Bama), and I'm sure the school will pony up for the highest assistant coach payroll in the country.

Well....he was a pretty darned good OC under Petersen at Boise State.

Yeah, he did pretty well at Texas as well, though he was co-OC with Major Applewhite. I took a quick skim through offensive numbers and it seems his offenses were consistently over 30 ppg.

It was a matter of fit. He'll do okay elsewhere if he finds the right fit. Auburn had abused this man ever since he got there. They poisoned their own well.
I came in here to say the same thing about fit. I never saw them as a good match. With how crazy and involved those Auburn boosters are, I would be leery of that job.

They don't like losing. That yellow cowboy guy was a customer of mine and I know how he is. Wish we had a few like him.

I said multiple times since this past Spring that I got it wrong when I said Auburn got it right when it hired Harsin. I will say it again: I got it wrong. Here is the point that I was inarticulate in trying to say. Most of the time when you hire someone who had prior success as a FBS Head Coach, they have success at their new school. If you go back 60 years in SC football, the hires we have made of HCs with prior successful FBS Head Coaching experience, they had some success here. Those who did not have such experience (Bell, Woods, Scott and Muschamp). were unmitigated failures here. If Shane Beamer does not straighten out the offense, he is going to join that latter, illustrious group.
