Military service, evening in Paris, birth of a child, marriage, Venice, glass of wine in Napa at a vineyard, morning in Nantucket, 3am in Tokyo, a Hemingway novel, Penn State football game, driving on the autobahn....

A bike ride on the beach....where the sand is packed just right, the breeze is enough to cool you but not make it hard to pedal, and there are enough bikinis to make it interesting but not so many people you can't navigate

Falling in love for a lifetime, as I have with my wife. She has given me over 50 years of enchantment.
On Valentine's Day each year I give her a card that contains the lyrics in the John Denver song, Perhaps Love. "If I should live forever, and all my dreams come true, my memories of love will be of you."

As much as I love this sentiment, I have had the fortune of falling in love for a lifetime twice. First wife who was the love of my life passed way too early, and I subsequently found the second love of my life who lost her first husband way too early. What it taught me is to make every second of your life a learning experience, grow from each and adapt. I have learned through this that I am a much better partner for my second wife that I was for my first. Keep learning, keep getting better.

I have not experienced your loss, and at my age, if I do, I may not get a 2nd chance as you did. It is good to hear you found happiness after your tragedy. May God grant you, and your 2nd love, many more happy years together.

My first time breaking ice for McMurdo station (1961). Seeing Scott's hut, Mt Erebus, killer whales, elephant seals (all up close). Wonderful experience.

Many great responses here. I'll add one: have a garden.

I appreciate all of the seasons, but one thing I dislike about winter is that I can't work in my garden. There's a lot to be said about preparing your soil, planting, and harvesting your own veggies. I lay awake at night sometimes thinking about my asparagus lying 10 inches deep in the garden waiting for a few warm, spring days. Man, that stuff tastes just perfect after a brief time on the grill, dressed with some EVOO, herbs (from the garden), and garlic.

Archery hunt in Pa on a crisp fall morning in late October. The beauty of the leaves, the smell of fall, watching the woods come to life at daybreak. It’s a rush. Maybe not for everyone, but I’ve converted several folks who are now “hooked”. Some had never really had an outdoors experience

Well said! Well done also! As many know, I lost my wife as well 26 days 3 months and 15 years ago. Perhaps I shut myself off and didn't allow the possibility of finding another love. It seemed impossible. While married for 37 years, we were in a committed relationship for 40 and met 47 years before she passed. The roots run deep! Our relationship was like most others. Far from perfect......and at times as wonderful as any 2 people can hope to experience.
With this perspective I choose to remember the moments of near perfection. I remember the little things. How I felt if she grasped my hand or put her hand on my elbow when we walked down the street. While driving, with toddlers in the back seat, how she would "feed me" a burger or some fries so we could continue on our journey.
Live for the brief moments of near perfection.

Not a one time experience but a lifetime decision: accepting Chrrist as personal Savior. Greatest life decision I have ever made.
