It will never cease to amaze me how EC tourists will skip past multiple superior local and chain burger places just so they can return home and rave about how they ate In N Out.

I mean, if it's there, grab it. Don't make it the anchor of your day trip; don't pass by dozens of better restaurants to get there; don't wait in a hype-created line. It's solid for fast food, but it isn't likely the best burger in town, let alone your lifetime.

All the burger places listed are pretty good. My first choice is still Fuddruckers 1lb Cheeseburger. Sadly only a couple of them left in NJ.

Why is price an issue? If the burger is legit who cares what it costs. For those that frequent Newark Airport about a mile away in Elizabeth the Seaport Diner has an excellent homemade burger that is so good. It’s across from lookers.

Dairi-O is actually the best fast-food drive thru burger in the country but you’ll have to have been lucky enough to stumble on one of them in the piedmont of North Carolina, believe there are around 8 locations all together. The North Carolina style “All The Way” (Beef chili no beans, white Cole slaw, diced onions and yellow mustard) can’t be beat

Do they sell hot dogs? "All the way" sounds perfect.

Not sure I'd like it as much on a burger but Would be willing to find out : )

I love the burgers at Arthur’s steak House and Grasshopper. Both have about four locations in Northern New Jersey , Irish pubs. Fat , juicy , 8 ounce burgers, instead of thin quarter pound, hockey pucks. Plus their potatoes are better than french fries, as they come roasted with onions and peppers
I prefer the steak sandwich at arthurs.

Resurrection of a 3 year old thread. Impressive!

Rumors of In n Out Burger coming to SE US. Looking to set up a East HQ in TN.

Price is an issue and as such perhaps no better value on the planet.
Bingo. Can’t beat I&O for value. Burger may not be the best ( their fries are absolutely awful) , but for feeding a family it’s the best fast food burger joint out there.

Five guys is terrible.

I used to love Five Guys, especially their fries.

Five Guys lost their dammed mind charging people $13 for their cheeseburger

Yep, that's why we don't go there anymore. Haven't for years. For what they charge for a single burger I can buy a 3 pound pack of beef and make thick, juicy burgers off the grill for everyone.

Been buying Pattie’s from Barth’s in New Providence. It’s a brisket and ribeye burger. Super tasty.

Yup.

Or for that price, I’d rather go to Krugs in Newark or Park Tavern in Kersey City and get a REAL burger

Five Guys is WAY overpriced. Habit Burger Grill is our go-to stop. Food is good, prices are reasonable, and the one that we go to on RT 22 in Bridgewater has great service.

In-N-Out >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Five Guys > Shake Shack

FIFY! :)
In-N-Out- kindof sucks
so does Five Guys and Shack Shack

What happens in the case of INO - it is an institution that you go to certain western cities- you have to go there.

FiveGuys/SS - they are ok but the prices got out of hand- My local tavern has hand made burgers and fries as a combo for the price of their burgers.

I go Vegas/Arizona- I am still going to a INO- going animal or some other fun thing you can do and just make it a part of the trip= but nothing really so special

Sonic also started out pretty damn good- but has become complete **** and no longer a unique chain...We came back from the St. Pete bowl by car and searched out a Sonic and loved it but now- no different than BK
