OT: Interviews

After some quality time trolling the Iowa fanbase an important question was raised.

Does one wear a tie to interviews anymore? Discuss.

I've had three major career moves and the first two I interviewed in jeans and a sweater and my last one I did over the phone in boxers and some sort of ratty t-shirt so that's a big no from me personally.

Yep, depends on the field and the company. Medical sales? Better wear a tie. Cannabis sales? Probably lose the tie.

Someday I'd probably like to interview with like a really uppity company that has like the posh workspaces and formal dress code and all that. Just to see what its like outside of the movie portrayals.

Then I could legit go buy something nice and really have a day of it. But I'm pretty sure since I'm not like a corporate lawyer or high powered business hedge fund guy I'm not going to get any interviews in a place like that.

If you're not sure about the appropriate attire for an interview - ask. With workplace dress codes being all over the board now, there's nothing wrong with asking that question.

I don’t often wear ties, but when I do, I prefer Jerry Garcia ties.

I don’t have much to offer as far as interviews, but one thing I’ve noticed at work is that “business casual” sure is getting more and more casual.

my last interview, I didn't wear the tie.. felt a little self conscious about it, but was more like f it.

I got the job, but I think what worked was at the end of it all, I just told the guy, "look I'll do it however you want it done."

That is what I think what got me hired more so than anything else.
