Cause he was out closing.why wasn't pacino in that scene?
In terms of ensemble cast I think this movie would give it a "run" for the money.

Magnolia kicks Pulp Fiction’s ***.
My Tom Cruise as a serious actor moment came with Interview with a Vampire.Might be my favorite movie ever (Magnolia). Made me a Tom Cruise as serious actor believer.

Pulp Fiction is a classic, anytime you can pick a quote or quotes from a movie out of the air you've made your point.
By the way The Dirty Dozen had an outstanding cast too numerous to post right now.
Don't get started on the cameo disaster movies from the early 70's
Goodfellas has a very good cast/ acting.Maybe….

I have to watch it now, i'll let you know, sometimes trailers can be deceiving. If you ask Quentin Tarantino who is favorite modern film director is, he’ll probably say Paul Thomas Anderson. That said, Magnolia isn’t for everyone - it’s a dense, sprawling, layered story that deals with some heavy subjects. The opening scene is one of my favorite ever - sets the tone for the rest of the film. I don’t see how it could be ‘corny’, but to each his own.

PTA isn’t for everyone. The level of sustained emotional engagement in Magnolia can be overwhelming. It’s a movie about flawed people at what they recognize to be crossroads in their lives, and it’s not an easy watch. For me, it’s one of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen.I have to watch it now, i'll let you know, sometimes trailers can be deceiving.

Magnolia is more than a little contrived, that’s for sure. I much prefer Punch-Drunk Love. But PTA’s movies always leave you emotionally spent.Magnolia - I finally watched it spoilers again spoilers.
Reminded me of a cross between Boogie Nights and Pulp Fiction, cinematography that is. Great cast forgot about Melinda Dillon ( Christmas Story mom ) and the bad guy from Ghost.
Why i missed it in 20 plus years , well it was watching my dad and four other family members die from cancer again minus the negative relationships. I didn't need to see that.
Cruise was weird or corny in his alpha male schtick, the game show was weird, and i get the background of the characters, finally breaking down into their basic selves. Julianne Moore is an outstanding actress, i like all her movies.
The basis of this 3 hours movie was there are no coincidences in life, and God controls and guides. If you want to psychoanalyze the frailty of human conditions of control, love, weakness, loneliness, vice, ego, anger, paranoia, depression, anxiety, hospice conditions , drug and sexual abuse then this movie is for you.
I'm not disagreeing with any of you, hey ! Roger Ebert didn't give good ratings to Dead Poet's Society and Tommy Boy. To each his own.
Probably not the place for this but did you guys watch Licorice Pizza?
