I agree but it ain’t gonna happen. He’s leaving in July, but here’s the good news: HE GETS TO PICK THE NEXT FOOTBALL COACH. lol. Great job listening to Matt Jones BBN. He always has your back. Lol
I'm not a Matt Jones fan but it's weird to blame him for Mitch and Stoops sucking *** and screwing the football team. Many of us have our own opinions and think Stoops has to go now.

I’m not blaming him for them sucking. I’m blaming him for pushing the narrative that firing needs to happen now. For a million reasons, doing it RIGHT NOW is silly:

1.) It will keep us from having flexibility to make coaching changes in basketball if needed.

2.) It cuts into our NIL package for basketball during a time we desperately need it

3.) It ensures BARNHART gets to hire the next coach

So yes, I blame it on Matt, unless you weren’t able to think clearly enough to realize how bad an idea it is to fire Stoops right at this moment. I find it additionally hilarious coming from you because you’ve been head of the “lack of studs” department. How you think that’s gonna go with even more university money tied up in a $55M coaching change?

It's obvious you are a basketball only fan which is fine but some of us also care about football and the future of that program so yes I want Stoops to go now. It's only a rumor that Mitch is retiring and he could be here years for all we know so I'm not counting on that at all.

No. I’m not a basketball only fan. I’m a football fan who understands it has a glass ceiling, watched every FB game since 2002. I assume you’ll stop complaining about studs coz you showed you don’t mean what you say. If you really were about it, you wouldn’t be pushing for a $55M coaching change in football that hampers basketball. I’m sorry but I don’t want to hear you talking about studs or NIL again coz I’ll call that **** out fast.

You know I’m a Pope guy but that’s the thing. We don’t know what it’s like after three years. The Stoops deal will have us hamstrung now. I gotta learn to start caring less coz it’s clear most of the fanbase doesn’t care that much. If it fails with Pope, I guess we can just be the next Indiana coz our leverage with increased NIL allotment is about to be gone. Our boosters are about to need a cooldown after spending big, but hey at least we can finish 6th in the SEC in football coz that really means something.

The pressure to win in basketball is too great for UK to become Indiana. As I’ve said before Indiana went into “protect the image mode” after Knight. They’ve mad a decision to let the program go and not compete at the highest level. They tried to clean up after that era. Not sure what that looks like moving forward though, but Indiana will not play in gray areas anymore moving forward so you can’t win that way. Kentucky tries to do that to an extent, but it’s all eyes on the basketball team so they have to cave.

Again, I don’t see a situation where Kentucky cannot do both. It’s not an “or”. If anything happens to suggest that then we need to scrap football, but I can’t see a situation where that’s the case. If it were, then yes scrap football of course

lol yeah right. The fanbase is so bloodthirsty they are demanding Stoops be fired right now. Mitch is set to retire but now these people have ensured that Mitch gets to pick the next football coach. The smart thing would have been wait next year at least, so that the

Nah if fire Barnhart right now and damn sure would let him pick the next coach. Even if he remains you don’t let him make the next hire. If Mark Hill is the next AD, he’ll have just as much input as Barnhart. That’s the biggest problem to me, we’re going to go with barnharts understudy.

Barnhart has been a terrible AD, he doesn’t deserve to hand pick his successor. No championships in football, and none in basketball aside from 2012 which he had nothing to do with. In what world should this guy not only get to pick his replacement but even still be employed. .

If you didn’t want Mitch making the hire, it would make sense to wait. He’s the AD so he will make the hire, and I can’t believe people aren’t putting 2+2 together. If you don’t like Mitch, the best thing to do is wait, not force the change now.

Basketball makes nothing compared to football. I hate to break it to you but when people think about SEC, uk basketball isn’t a thought. I love uk basketball but football overall is the better sport and we are in the best football conference to ever exist. Basketball must come secondary to football. Indiana did just that.
I love both sports but basketball will never become secondary to football in Kentucky. It’s not even possible

Mitch being employed as AD doesn’t mean it’ll be his choice. We’ve already seen this. Mitch did not pick the Calipari hire, it was forced on him. That’s why he had no access inside the basketball program and stayed away from it. Calipari would only work through Peevy and he called that shot.

Even if he’s AD, I don’t actually believe he’ll get the final say. Mike Pratt rallied the troops and brought Calipari in.

You been drinking today?? lol 😂
No but I sure feel like it. This is a big deal to me. Kentucky basketball means the world to me and I watch a lot of people who act like they care but show their true colors. All I’ve ever been is someone who, despite being divisive, is very clear what I believe. I see a lot of people asking for the Rolls Royce but spending that money to buy somebody else a Mercedes. I’m just being honest about what it is — BS.

But it will be his call to make. Just gonna laugh if people start crying about Mitch making the wrong hire, because regardless of whether you feel like he should or shouldn’t make the hire, he absolutely can and probably will.

I think realistically most of us know we'll never be OSU or Bama or the likes. The local talent just isn't enough to build a consistent powerhouse. But we do expect to put a competitive team together that's worth paying to go see. I wouldn't even force my worst enemy to go endure a live game with the current product we're putting out.
This. IU football sucked for decades. They don’t now. And their basketball has a pulse.

There’s no reason you can’t be competitive in both now and occasionally make title runs.

You just have to have the right personnel. Sorry no sorry. Stoops is no longer the right personnel.

Yep. Mitch didn’t even technically hire Stoops. It was by committee. Mitch just helped draw up that AWFUL contract

The last coach Mitch fully vetted and hired on his own? Without the input of a committee or outside influence?

BILLY GILLISPIE
JOKER PHILLIPS

let that sink in. He’s so bad at his job, he just really do what the landlords want. I’m convinced it’s simply because he doesn’t demand winning and goes as cheap as he can while maintaining balance.

Look, anyone saying we should be basketball first is honestly, pretty dumb. A strong football program lets us dominate in basketball too. Do you realize how much money a good SEC football program brings in?

This post is pretty spot on. Indiana fans still have this "Carolina way" mindset about them. Myles Brand netuered that program. (One of the guys books was 'Academics First: Reforming Intercollegiate Athletics'). They want clean cut Indiana high school boys. Just like ole Bob Knight had! Remember when Cal was here, and Knight was saying nobody went to class and we were renting mercanaries? I heard it for years, about how IU would never sell their soul for wins. It was about academics and doing it the right way. Just like how RMK did it!

At this point, we best hope Mark Pope is next Coach K, coz we are stuck now.

we will have to ride Pope out good or bad. However I also know Pope won’t be Stoops and smirk like he’s untouchable. If it goes too south Pope will step down. He isn’t a liar about loving this place.

I figure Pope steps down if he feels like he’s in over his head. He’s got a good head on his shoulders and family to keep him sane. If things get real bad this year or next he’ll probably say he’s discussed it with his family and step down. I can’t imagine Pope is the kind of guy who wants to deal with the pressure cooker of Kentucky if fans get antsy.

I do love me some Pope. I just hope I was right that he’s the guy. This stuff worries me bad about the future, but what’s done is done. I’ll support the new football coach, whoever it is. I hope we don’t look back at this with regret.

How could we? The man was an AWFUL coach the last 2-3 years.

Also:

He apparently thinks he was doing an ok job with that kind of reaction. I take no great joy in it, but when he was THAT arrogant yesterday after getting blown out, it was time to go. You CANNOT sit there and smirk and act untouchable after a blowout shutout from your rival's PRACTICE SQUAD.

Imagine if Pope lost to UofL or KU by 20+ and just laughed it off.....

Ask me if I GAF how much money football makes. I don’t. No one outside of the state of Ky cares one way or the other about our football program. It’s a fun sport. Basketball is our pride and joy.
Life in the ACC would compliment UK athletics better but it's a step down. We just need more entrepreneurial billionaires or a more competent AD who doesn't bankrupt funding with egregious contract buyouts.

Yes. If the difference isn’t gonna be $55M in revenue, it’s a silly decision. The man we wanted (Sumrall) will be a Gator. Even as bad as Stoops is, we haven’t had anything better in my lifetime. I know people are upset about Louisville/Vandy but we can’t be consistent with saying we don’t want to be behind in NIL and we want all these first options in basketball while also spending $55M to get rid of Stoops. That’s crazy. Mitch sounds like the only person thinking to me.
Was he thinking when he wrote that contract that pays that??
Or Cals stupid contract.
He doesn’t want to move on because now the blame for that 55 million is on his shoulders.

While I love basketball more I can't get on board with just sacrificing the football program for it. Stoops HAS to go.
Zero reason why we can’t have a great football team on a regular basis. Zero.

Indiana for God’s sake made the playoffs last season, and have a great chance to win the National Championship this season. Indiana. Yes, Indiana. One of the worst power five football programs in the history of the sport, are now elite in CFB, because they hired the right guy.

So STFU with saying it can’t happen here. It can.
