Who's the real racist? The person who says monkey around a black person? Or the person that gets offended?

Because to be offended, YOU have to equate the person to the monkey.

Noone can avoid all the potential landmines in today's I am offended culture. At the same time - this is one of the easier ones to avoid. Should know better

The rules these days are really simple. Under no circumstance can a white person say anything even remotely construed as involving race. Just walk away if someone tries to get you in a conversation about it.

As the example in Chicago made it very clear, the flip side means anything goes without repercussions, including just making things up.

I agree that the discussion is like walking a minefield, but a few mouths don't speak for all. It only matters if the reasonable people are offended.

And so what ? Long after we are dead their will only be one race because we will be all ethnicities and it won’t matter, thank god.

it doesn't matter now.

but you can rest assured people will find other reasons to be offended then, other reasons to climb onto a moral high horse... other reasons to feel unearned superiority and other reasons to wag their fingers and other reasons to lift their noses

So, if a white male shares a racist opinion in public media, there shouldn't be any repercussions? Is that what you're implying or are you just being a snowflake?
I was being a smart ***. Im not sure how you don’t see that. What if ANYONE shares a racist opinion in any situation? Should there be repercussions regardless of race? Racism isn’t bound to white males. Joking or not, making defamatory racial comments by any person is despicable.

Please America grow a pair... We’re a culture of whiners who aren’t just looking to be offended ourselves but to be offended for someone else! Ignore those who are “offensive” or better yet tell them so. But stop being so thin skinned (is that wrong to say too?) and looking for excuses to be triggered!

I get it. I responded because I work with a couple of people who make statements like that and are completely sincere. Since it's a workplace, it makes for awkward conversation.

So if a half black lady has a baby with a white guy, the baby is only 1/4 or 25% black. So we are talking about a predominantly white baby. Just saying
a half black is synonymous with mulatto, and her child with a white man would be a quadroon. Someone, most likely bigbluesean, will see this post and report it for racism, but these were widely used and accepted vernacular for mixed race persons before this explosion of Frankfurt School thought policing and social justice.

Ok I have a question? If I said you look like a monkey or if I said you have the IQ of a monkey ? Which one offends you more ? Like I said earlier, people are too touchy-feely these days.

I would dismiss you as some one pretty ignorant that I didn't care much what you said. I can't fight with all the ignorant people in the world, too many of them, too many radical groups out there, religious and otherwise. unless it was going to have an effect on my family, job opportunities, etc.

On the other hand I might punch you in the mouth and go to jail, lol.

Jauk11 I wouldn’t say that to you but was making a point that some people need to be overlooked not as being racist but for being ignorant. Your answer was both truthful and made my point. With the new social media way too many people have voices that really should be silent. Maybe I’m one, kinda weird huh lol ?

This is the obvious answer to anyone with any sense at all, any integrity whatsoever. You (one) don't know the intent behind the joke or the comment, could be totally innocuous and have zero to do with racism. You (one) should know better given historical context and how people might perceive your comments, attribute intent that might not have been there, that you can lose your job for comments that may just reflect poor taste.

Lots of things should be, but aren't. There are always going to be dumb people and primitive minded people. They should be smarter and more egalitarian. There are plenty of actual problems in the world without idiots with chips on their shoulders going fanning flames on social media of problems that don't exist.

No but if a white male share an opinion it is the only demographic that has a privelege attached to it and th only demographic negatively viewed if you attach supremist to it.. ethnic pride is a ok but not if you are white

Well, I watched the video twice, still didn't get it. I was looking for a black person that Lee had called a monkey. Stupid me, read the comments, oh, ok. So he was talking about the royal baby. I would be much more offended that my baby was called a monkey, regardless of color.

Suspension is fair. Doesn’t warrant firing. Cruise isn’t my cup of tea, but I’m not offended. He should probably be smarter with what he endorses in a public forum.

This thread illustrates my greatest dream: The persecuted white lady SJWs and conservative white males with the same persecution complex would fight to the death and the contest end in a draw. Neither side is a victim of anything but thinking they’re victims.
