Locksley finished 4th in B1G East twice, and then 17th and tied for 16th the last two years. His B1G record the last 4 years:
4-5
4-5
1-8
1-8
0-4

Greg: Never finished higher than 5th in the B1G East, and has finished 9th and 14th the last two years.
Greg's B1G record for last 5 years:
1-8
3-6
4-5
2-7
1-2
In other words, we should hire Locksley immediately.

Just remember that if these coaches get jobs somewhere after they are fired, the firing school does not have to pay that amount in the buyout.
This is not the situation for Maryland and Locksley. They will have to pay him regardless.

Shelby always spits the truth. Cheese wishes RU would put someone like Shelby in charge.
When was the last time Cheese donated to Rutgers or the athletic programs? This guy loves to complain but has never given. That's a fact. He is rat poison. Just pure negativity. It would be best if he left these boards along with @Caliknight who holds a personal grudge against schiano for the athletic department giving football all the money and none to his precious field hockey. Neither Guy has never done anything in his life close to schianos.
Both are zeros.

Political and media climate is not creating the football futility at RU, poor coaching and poor player evaluation is. The criticism the program receives for on field performance is well deserved.

Agree. But perhaps re-read my post and what I was responding to as that wasnt the point I was making. I was responding to a poster who was essentially claiming that RU not firing Schiano (ala UMD with Locksley) was an indication that RU is only in the BIG for the money.

My post was not about how replacing GS is more complex of an issue due to NJ Politics, Media Reactions and less available big fish donors.

Listen RutgersAl, I have no personal vendetta. I’ve met the dude once or twice I think. He sucks as a coach of the football team. That’s all I’m interested in as it relates to Schiano. As to success, well I have a winning track record. You live with roommates and can’t get a wife. Who’s the real zero?

I can’t speak to field hockey but Keli is great to lacrosse. Even playing a scrimmage on Schianos field in season lol. Bet he loves that.

Oh man, harsh but telling it like it is. I thought superflame was the guy who followed the team from the west coast (I thought he lives in the Castro) but yeah maybe it's just another Al handle. Or both could be true if Al is out there

Some excerpts from Mike Locksley's interview with the great Jeff Ermann of InsideMDSports:

In his first public comments since the move, Locksley said he wants to get back into the NFL or become a coordinator at a college program "you can win a championship at." He ruled out the kind of rebuilding job that brought him to College Park.
.
.
.

"I said, 'Jim, I understand, and if you have to do what you need to do, I care more about Maryland and these kids than my ego,'" Locksley said. "But what I won't do is resign. But we can talk and figure out how to let the pressure off of everybody because I care more about Maryland."
.
.
.
"To be honest I kind of knew it was coming, just didn't know when," he said. "I'm not mad about leaving. I'm not. I'm at peace with it because I know it's better than what it was when I got here. A player died right before I got here and this place was burnt to the ground. Stabilized it, went to three bowls, NIL kicks in, and wasn't prepared for it."
.
.
.
"The hardest thing I dealt with here was not recruiting players, it's being able to get the right coaches and assistants with me," he said. " "For whatever reason, I struggled to keep the really good coaches I had because we win, we were having success, and people come hire them. I was not able to keep consistency with the staff. And then NIL hit."

Locksley's feeling that NIL caught Maryland unprepared has numbers behind it. Maryland athletics finished last in the Big Ten in both revenue and spending in fiscal year 2025, taking in about $124 million and spending about $128 million, the fourth deficit in five fiscal years. Smith has estimated that the department sits $50 million to $60 million behind the middle of the conference.

Cheese should consider rephrasing “…Cheese thought…” but other than that Shelby is fully on board the Starship Cheese’s wise course forward.

Everything in this article applies to Rutgers too. These top coach candidates may well wait for better jobs.
