Wife and I are looking at a purple mattress, seems to have great reviews. 8 years ago we bought a tempurpedic for $2k and it was super comfortable but started to lose its firmness after 2 1/2 years. Any thoughts on purple or other mattresses that have done well for you?

I’m interested in buying a new mattress as well - don’t care about the color but I want a thick one to raise the height of the bed. Mattress sales are very confusing and from what I read there is a very high mark up at the retail shops.

Well purple is the brand. They are relatively new but use a rubber coil type technology.

I’ve also looked into avocado (organic mattress) wife wants something organic or non-toxic. Avocado mattresses have also had great reviews

Agree with that part. Apparently to prevent price shopping, different stores use different names for the same mattress and the manufacturers go along with that.

What? $2K for a mattress? I spent about 1/4 that at Sam's and I sleep like a baby.

You've f'd in quicksand?
I’ve imagined it. But seriously, with your hands down on the mattress to support yourself, you’re constantly trying to crawl out of a sinking hole. And no spring = no bounce back.

A good mattress for f*cking should be called a Tramp-oline.

(Of course, we would think it has something to do with our offensive line. 🙄)

We have a memory foam mattress from level sleep. Chiropractor suggested it. LOVE it. Three different degrees of firmness where you need it. Big fan of their 365 day trial period, and lifetime guarantee. To the point where I’ve become a mattress snob. Any other mattress (besides my second choice, zinus) and my back hurts for days.

Speaking of zinus, all of our mattresses at the beach house are zinus. Very affordable (well they used to be) memory foam, and very comfortable.

We have a Casper memory foam mattres that’s 9 years old and has been very good until just a few weeks ago. Can’t pinpoint exactly what’s changed, but I’m not sleeping as well recently (although it could be my 56-year old body).

I left of the second “s” for savings. Anyone remember that commercial?

I was going to recommend a sleep number mattress, but the turn in this thread makes me thing there is an opportunity for sleep number to advertise certain numbers that work best for various positions. I’m guessing that 69 would be an easy one to identify…

Thanks for the info; definitely a mattress type that I have no interest in purchasing. When doing the deed, I expect to be using my hands for more enjoyable things than supporting myself. ;)

Make your own mattress. That is what I did and have been very happy and saved a lot of money. I did not want coils and wanted something less than 10” and on the firmer side. Have 3 layers of 3” latex with varying firmness. Only downside is it is very heavy and was difficult fitting in the mattress cover.

If you and your wife like having traditional sex (missionary position), then I recommend avoiding anything memory foam. It’s like trying to F in quicksand.
And if she has short femurs you’ll get equally frustrated in “the referee’s position” on any mattress. It’s why @Midnighter makes his polls. We demand perfection in these parts, especially in football season.
