Just saw this the other day and, in reading the thread on millenials, I was reminded. One of the many reasons millenials don't seem to have the same values, work ethic, perserverance, loyalty, attention span, etc., etc. is that our school system has utterly failed them. The goal of an educational system is to educate, not indoctrinate and not merrily pass kids who are not ready for the next grade so as not to hurt their self-esteem. Part of this indoctrination includes teaching our kids to be victims: racism, homophobia, gender bias, religious bias, etc. You name it, there's a victim group ready to stand up and demand restitution for some real or imagined slight.

An example of this ridiculous attitude is the 'microaggression' BS concocted by academia. At UCLA recently, a training course was required to be taken by professors and administrators, purportedly to teach them how to avoid 'microaggressions'. The mental gymnastics that the instruction booklet has to perform in order to concoct some 'offense' is beyond the pale ridiculous. I'll cite a few examples (all of the examples are verbatim quotes from the course material):

'I believe the most qualified candidate should get the job' - that translates to "People of color are given unfair benefits because of their race".

'Men and women have equal opportunities for achievement' and 'Gender plays no part in who we hire' - translation: "The playing field is level so if women cannot make it, the problem is with them".

'America is the land of opportunity' and 'Everyone can succeed in this society if they work hard enough' - translation: "People of color are lazy and/or incompetent and need to work harder".

If you think this type of thinking is sound, then you're part of the problem, imo. I can't stand discrimination and would fight to end it all together. But, this stuff is stupid and, if pushed too far, could be hugely damaging to society as a whole.

Reads better as a Facebook rant, imho. Put a teaser above the "Continue Reading" thing and draw them in. Then, boom, hit them with the huge, lazy critique of an entire generation.

So you're not supposed to use those phrases because they're offensive? Kind of lost me there.

i agree it's all about the victim.
