Wasn’t a head shot, rightly wasn’t penalized, and if the league acts it just proves their inconsistency because it was not nearly as close to the “edge” of legality as other hits Trouba has not been punished for.

Both this hit and the hit on Lindgren started with body on body and the league doesn’t (or at least hasn’t before) consider that illegal.

It was a forearm shot to the head with a follow through. The principal point of contact was the head. I am most upset with the Devils because there was no fight back. Way to soft, and can't defend.

Another thing about Lindgren, if he doesn't lose his balance and drop his head, the hit would have not hit him there. Don't worry, Trouba has delivered that headshot to plenty of players, and nothing happens. This is why I theorized he has some great blackmail on Bettman or something. I'm just waiting for the time someone gives it back to Trouba.

Last night's game felt just like the last Capitals game at the Rock. Get behind the 8-ball, then have a strong 2nd period to claw back in the game, only to play prevent defense in the 3rd period to lose the game.

Lindy Ruff is too experienced to have this team called for a too many men penalty in the 3rd. As well as allowing this team to play prevent in the 3rd when the defense/goaltending is suspect. Only chance for the Devils to win, is to attack for 60 minutes.

The still soft Devils need more pushback. You will always get more of what you tolerate. Where is the response? Only Dawson, and he didn't finish.

Probably the most memorable team in the history of the NHL! They are honored all the time by the league, including the MM Leadership Award for one of the greatest leaders in the history of sports.

FYI - NYR still has a better playoff record against the Newark Devils.

You can’t excuse the Lindgren hit due to “if he doesn’t lose his balance and drop his head”, and then complain about the Trouba hit where Nosek dropped his head even further to look for the puck in his skates.

Both were clean hits by the rules.

Too many men penalties are usually not the coach's fault, most of the time it's just the players executing the change poorly. Blaming the coach for a player hopping on the ice too early is like blaming the coach for a player high-sticking somebody.

OK, but I would expect a veteran coach to smarten the players up. This penalty is happening way to often, at some terrible times. Whoever screwed up there, needs to sit.

Devils didn’t upgrade in 2 areas that they need to :

- Acquiring a sure #1 goalie
- Toughness.

No actual timetable on either. The Devils are becoming Mets-like in that the timeframes they make public mean nothing. Hischier was originally listed as day to day, but was put on IR last week, retroactive to 10/27. Meier is "out short term," which means we'll hopefully see him back for the Stadium Series.

I stopped reading after the 1st paragraph, as I never said anything about the NHL conspiring with the Rangers, as I don't believe that. My beef is their tolerance for Trouba with not even a penalty. As I stated my personal aggravation is with the Big ***** Devils for not fighting back. Trouba should have not been able to later hit Holtz because a Bahl or Lazar should have kicked his ***. Now be gone rags fan, you are not welcome here! Why try to pick a fight with me, I never posted in the NYR tread? You should be enjoying your team's early success, as history shows it most likely will not last. It's a long year, and with astute moves by Fitz, and a little good luck the Devils could be this year's Panthers!

I purposefully do not like to share bad news. It could be worse, but it is not great. I lost my mom on May 17th ( thanks for the prayers), and had my first stroke July 8th in my brain stem. This took out my left side, I still can't straighten my ring finger, my hand is mangled, and I'm numb. It took 48 hours and 2 doctors to see the stroke. My luck they also found hydrocephlus again and factor 5 Leiden, a blood clot disorder.

I spent about a month between a hospital and a rehab hospital before getting released on August 7th. Even with all the medications, including blood thinners, I had my second stroke on August 25th. This was not as severe, but strong enough to make my right side numb. Especially in my extremities.

By over 20 years I was the youngest stroke victim both times. Oh when/if I regain what I lost, they tell me I need orthopedic surgery on my neck and lower back. I'm strengthening myself, but still have a long way to go. So my great health strikes again .

In one full swoop I thought back to Slapshot and laughed. You know the scene where Paul Newman calls out the owner for some interesting conduct on a road trip LOL. I smiled and said that must be it, Trouba has blackmail on Bettman. This is why they penalized Vincent, and let Jacob slide. The whole thing was a way for me to try and bring a laugh, as once again consistency is lacking.

The Devils can definitely use Zadorov to get a little tougher, but unfortunately so can a lot of teams. I know Toronto is rumored to be very interested, but there would definitely be others.

These days it’s not just who can put together the right trade package, it’s who can make enough cap space to make a trade (because so many teams are up against it).

Eh it's not really something that is coached, sometimes there is just a miscommunication out there, for example perhaps it looks like the guy you're replacing is coming to the bench so you start to hop on, and then he changes directions. Or sometimes it seems like a good time to change but then the play develops differently than what you or the player you are changing with expected, and now the puck ends up somewhere that makes it a bad time to change and both players aren't on the same page. Unfortunately these things happen. Benching someone when there's a too many men penalty just isn't effective or a realistic expectation. Might as well bench anyone who takes a hooking penalty. Also one thing that I never see anyone mention is that these too many men penalties happen because line changes are done very quickly so as to minimize the amount of time your team is defensively vulnerable, so while you could eliminate these penalties by changing slower, it's hard to quantify how many more scoring chances are yielded by not pushing the limit on the changes. Now of course I don't expect anyone to just be okay with taking too many men penalties, but I think it's good to keep in mind that the other end of the spectrum is changing too slowly and giving up odd-man rushes.

Also this idea that having a big tough guy would deter opponents from throwing big hits on the Devils seems to contradict your notion that they should go after Trouba. Well if big hitters are really so intimidating that they deter hits, then wouldn't everyone be afraid to throw a big hit on a Ranger, including Trouba? Also, ask a Leafs fan if they think Ryan Reaves has been a worthwhile use of a roster spot. He sure didn't deter Brad Marchand from sending Timothy Liljegren flying feet first into the boards and onto LTIR, and on top of that he is yet to record a point this season and is already a -11. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets waived before the season ends.
