This would be ideal news if accurate. NJ.com source speculates a return in 3-4 weeks for Hughes, though he says it’s certainly fluid.

Another game, another hard watch

Getting physically man handled again.
Absorbing big hit after big hit.

Embarrassing display of hockey by NJD tonight

Proud, please stop pretending that you are a Devil's fan. The pleasure you take in putting them down is absurd. You are full of it. You are a hater, not a fan. No fan of a team would criticize them when they are 7-3-1 without their 2 best players. Who do you really root for?

I just turned on the game expecting to see us getting pounded. Instead it's 3-3.
In the middle of a long road trip seems like we're doing OK tonight.

Unpopular but timely personal observation, if the NHL is going to let players grab a defending player's stick, to draw a hooking penalty, I think they should just get rid of the embellishment penalty all together. After all it comes down to skill, timing, and acting. I would scrap embellishments, and chalk it up as being consistent.

Let's go win the 3rd and the game Devils!

It is hard to win on the road without your two best players when not everyone shows up. Especially when playing a good team.

We must take fewer penalties and allow a lot fewer odd man rushes. As much of a problem as I have with our goaltending, they both are hung out to dry by our defense routinely.

The schedule is not easy coming up. Either this team finds a second wind and bucklesdown, or we might be lucky to get a Wildcard spot. Unless Fitz can pull another rabbit out of his hat.

Team has certainly taken a step back since last season, that’s a given.

Need a goalie and a shutdown defender. Badly

The GM isn’t smart enough apparently to realize it.

He is fine with Smith in the lineup every night which is a major downgrade to last season.

Kinda early to worry about a playoff spot after only 11 games. I never look at the standings until January. That is when you see the teams who will be in the playoffs start pulling away from those who won't be. Last December was terrible for the Devils, they ended up fine at the end of the season. A LOT of hockey to be played and most teams will suffer injuries. I just hope the Devils have suffered their worst.

You can't win a playoff spot this early, but you can lose it. Between the injuries and inconsistencies, while not worried, it is time to be concerned. Do you really see a streak like the one we had last year after losing the first two, or a 12 game winning streak by this team playing portions of games only, never 60 minutes, or a defense that regularly hangs the goalie out to dry, kind of like the early '00 Kasparitis Rangers teams. Personally I do not.

It is not worry, but hockey concern. I thought we would take a step back this season, as no one thought we would be that good last year, and as such we faced many backups. This year we sneak up on no one.

I hope my sober assessment turns out to be wrong. This team needs to stick up for one another better. There is no reason to not challenge Avalanche players, whom say Wood, for dangerous hits.

This is the game plan against the Devils more and more, take them out. I hope they are not waiting for Luke to get hurt. Smith has done this in his past, and should have Tuesday. There are plenty more like Bahl, McLeod, TT, and Meier who need to stand up and show we will bite back, when there are questionable hits.

Hamilton dropped Wood immediately after Wood hit Sieg's.

He did, full credit. However more Devils need to pick that part up. At times you need to take a penalty to send a message. I didn't mention Hamilton because the post was long enough. Lol

LOL, notice how often the Devils get a power play with under 2 minutes left in the period. Now I've never have seen the stat, but it is TRUE, teams rarely score on the remaining power play in the next period.

The only thing the Devils have not interfered with is Washington's march to victory. A painful LOL. To illustrate how this is not just a goalie problem, look back at Tom Wilson on an odd-man rush for a goal. Reality says the defensive struggles are now affecting the offense. Sad!

This Capitals goalie is being made to look like Olaf Kolzig tonight. I think I will install the old when you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Checkout Kevin Weekes nugget on Jack and Nico. Nico is having concussion problems, it sounds like.

No fear! They know Fitzgerald would not even make a coaching change, much less a huge trade where multiple key players get traded. Lou was famous for keeping the team on their toes, like breaking up the A-Line. No this team is too comfortable!

They’re just not that good without Jack.

Smith is the worst defenseman in the nhl too

Hopefully one of you guys picked up a bucket Camo hat for me. I saw it was a sold out crowd

Information found on Devils Reddit via X, the Devils are one of a few teams in the Zadorov sweepstakes. Not a goalie, but a big strong nasty defenseman. I hope we land him, as we are too passive and slow to act. Zadorov is a 6'5" *** kicker.

I agree that we are too soft. However, the lack of physicality will manifest itself far more in the playoffs. How do you get a read on a team that is missing its two best players?

I was thinking of you as I typed. I really want us to get him. With him here, not only do we get to sit Smith, but I think he is like a shot of adrenaline for players like Lazar. Not necessarily soft, but passive IMO.

At least Colin Miller is ready to play again.
He plays with an edge but is a lot better than Smith
