Yet another worst loss of the season. 54 shots to 24. Lose 4-3.

Jack with a penalty shot with 2 seconds left to tie it. Doesn’t even get a shot off as he loses the puck…choke.

Yeah that was fugly. What ever became of the crisp passing? 86 also had a week SOG with a teammate perched beside the net. Very few shots had a chance

I have always just assumed the Devils would make the playoffs playing a good last third to the season, but I didn’t realize things were getting that dire.

They have to go 15-7 just to get to 90 points, which normally puts you a few points short of making the playoffs.

On the plus side, they will be extremely dangerous after a lost year makes them get rid of Ruff.

This is a team of young talented players that apparently needs a wake up call that you can’t half *** it all year and get by on talent alone. Jack and his brother most of all need to put in the hard work off season and come back next year a lot hungrier. They got smacked around this season for probably the first time in their lives. Hope it motivates them - because they need it.

I have found a lot that when teams overachieve - such as the Devils did last year - for whatever reason - they take a step backwards the next year - a la this year.

Going to be to tough for Devils to make playoffs

They lack a dependable goalie / defense took a hit when Hamilton went down and they lack toughness. .

Those that think Ruff is the Reason for the down year will be surprised if the only change is a new coach.

Welcome Fitz off of vacation who now seems poised to mortgage the future for a 34 year old goalie, who unless he comes in hot may very well not be able to drag us into the playoffs. Much of the blame should go to poor roster management.

I'm happy this soft team finally has a true tough heavyweight, but it is criminal this minor deal that should prove to pay major dividends wasn't done months ago. If we are going to take Markstrom's full contract, we should have had our act together when we still had some leeway. Oh when you consider the contracts coming up, and Hamilton's 9 million getting added back in, I expect the Markstrom deal, if made, to hurt in the long run.

Sadly the Devils are not managed well.

If you (or anyone) paid attention to my posts all season, no one should be surprised that they’re not even close to being a playoff team. Fitzgerald assembled a weak roster.
It’s a bad team.

He better not trade Holtz or other good young players/prospects.

Toffoli is not only our leading goal scorer, he is coveted around the league. The Kings want him bad. I heard one proposed trade I would jump at, Toffoli to the Kings for a First Round Pick in '24 and A. Kalelev ( sp ). If anything like this please Fitz make the deal.

He’s a GREAT teammate
Still a top end goal scorer

But, his game will start to fall soon.
Fitzgerald should try to trade him.

But that package from the Kings is lousy.

I think he will trade him. I don't think the package is lousy, the player was considered to have a top shot in his draft class, and a 1st round pick is good in a deep draft.

Now don't worry the Kings are just one of a handful of teams interested. I think if done properly we could benefit from a bidding war.

That player is a bust
Bad skating , weak work ethic

But he’ll probably have a strong game against us today, lol

Patience my friend, he has a lot of skill and is from the Northeast. If it actually happens, he might benefit from being closer to home. I know the Devils wanted to draft him, but the Kings pounced right before our pick.

I hope the Kings throw in one of their big tough guys as well. They know how to draft size.

Myopic Fitzgerald worries me. He has let it be known Markstrom is our top wanted player.

E. Friedman is reporting the Devils are so intent on Markstrom if a deal isn't done by the trade deadline, the Devils will look to get him in the off-season.

The book is out on Fitz's weaknesses. This reminds me of the NYR taking (D) Schneider right before the Devils pick, and Fitz reaching for S.M. a project (D) we could have traded down and still got. At least SJS took him in the Timo trade.

YES but he was a project, most had him in the 3rd round not the first.

Fitzgerald is lucky the owners don't really care about winning, because he would be gone if it was me.

You can NOT negotiate if the other side knows what you really want. It is not a question if the Devils will get fleeced, it is only a question of how much Calgary wants to make this hurt. Blitzer should at the very least, forbid him from trading for Markstrom. He gave away all his POWER.

Nemec as a project d man, is a narrative that should have been put to bed a week into Nemec's NHL career.

I assume you were a Shayne Wright guy?

I’m fine with stock piling picks as long as each extra pick is someone 6 ft or bigger

Enough 5-8 guys

Pregame show had Hughes Holtz Nico and Bratt all walking into Arena together Looked like a youth league team

Not that I want more small guys, but I feel going away from the speed game is part of the problem.
