Regardless if you like Mitch or not, it is beyond silly for any state to not re-elect the top ranking politician of either party.

Nevada hated Harry Reid, but he did a ton for the state. McConnell makes things happen for KY even though some things on the national level are real head scratchers.

The fact is no one knows exactly what is really going on at capital hill and we probably never will. But once a state has the leading politician from either side in the House or the Senate they will always be better off than having the most junior politician representing them. And it will take decades before a state will be able to regain that type of power/influence again.

Which is how Mitch McConnell has fooled Kentuckians into not holding him accountable forever. 44th in unemployment, 49th in healthcare quality, 45th in economy, 46th in fiscal stability--I'll take my chances on someone new.

Yeah, because people do care about Kentucky sports. Very few, if any people, want to hear his opinions on politics.
My point is, if it offended them, they wouldn't listen. I know I wont listen to someone who offends me

So MM has more responsibility for those stats than the governor/state legislature?

Straight white males are what got this country in the shape its in
Pretty good shape if you ask me...my grandmother was 97 who died last year...she was AMAZED at how far this country has come since the great depression and what she had seen in her lifetime.

The shape this country is in is relative to expectations and comparisons.

If he's the powerful, important voice looking out for the interests of our people that we can't afford to lose, yes. I didn't make the claim, don't take it up with me.

YES

Matt wants to help our state, yet its the statehouse that has messed up the pension system and proposed these disastrous solutions to them...McConnell cant control how Bevin handles this Pension Bill...which is more serious to Kentuckians directly than anything MM is doing...help us directly and go to Frankfort first Matt.

Don't run from it, you are making the opposite claim. You are running from it since your party dominated KY legislature for decades.

lol my party.

I'm not running from anything. I'm pointing out the absurdity of giving someone that kind of significance with those kinds of results.

If you disagree that he's that important, discuss it with Brian. But you're running from it since *your* party is the one he belongs to.

JFC. Matt is a populist punk talking about "doing something" and throwing out vague "raise the taxes on a few rich people" to fix a decades long problem that has been propagated by near unanimous Dem leadership for decades.

Those aren't his results. You are a liberal, don't be a chickenshit.

TBH, I want this thread to get large because Matt reads it and it will get under his skin.

What are his results?

He's the irreplaceable pillar of Kentucky. If he's not responsible for our jobs or healthcare or anything else then what does he do? And why aren't you taking this up with Brian? He made the claim you disagree with.

I'd like to hear more about everything Mitch has done for the state. Particularly Eastern KY. I'll hang up and listen...
Obama was the Senator for Chicago and went on the POTUS. Long term abject poverty in high concentration is very very difficult to defeat from a federal perspective.

He isn't irreplaceable by a long shot but MJ as a better option is asinine. Those things you list could be much worse and would be with a more liberal dominated federal government.

How do you post so much from school, btw?

It won't be a democrat that beats Mitch. He will have to lose in the primary. I don't know much about Matt's platform, but Mitch has done nothing for Ky. and I would vote for anyone besides him.

I will use this as an example. In 2014 Mitch was challenged in the primary. We were told we needed to new voice for Ky and Mitch is the worst thing ever.

That man was Matt Bevin. Idk about you, but ill take Mitch over Bevin 11 times out of 10

senators should at max be able to serve 3 terms, if you cant make a difference in 12 years you're not gonna make a difference, but they should really be 2 terms. they are the ones that really hold the power in our country and we let them stay up there until they die. however Matt Jones is way to liberal for me.

And/or should be a mandatory retirement age. Having 80+ yo guys with so much power is dumb. Same with SCOTUS.

I dont have time to give civic's lessons here.

If you people do not believe that deals are made everyday in congress you are fooling yourselves.

These deals provide pork and many other things for the state of the deal making politician.

No politician receives more friendly persuasions than the President of the Senate (MM), the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader, as well as the Speaker of the House, Majority Whip and Minority Whip.

If any of you think KY will be better off with a brand new liberal Matt Jones representing a state that Republicans hold both houses then I'm not sure what to tell you.

If your argument is what is best for the country then that is a much deeper conversation based upon values.

As to Gonzo's numbers:

KY Unemployment was at it's highest in 2009 and 2010...

KY is currently ranked 32nd for last year and the Department of Labor ranks us at 25th after February.

https://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm

I dont have time to check the other categories but I will a little later.

Takes a lot of money to run a campaign. I mean, even the hair lady had no shot at beating Mitch. Good luck. I assume the polls have MJ up by 10, right? [laughing]

I'm not a betting man, but I think there is a bit of a tide turn going on right now. I don't know if it will last, but the more Bevin pushes this pension thing (which I'm not getting into), the blowback might be in the houses before it gets to him. Jones or another Dem could very well ride that momentum.

I'm not sure what will happen in the election, nor am I advocating for Mitch personally.

I am just saying as a business owner we definitely want the highest ranking politicians we can have in DC. Funding, permits, regulations, and protections are very big.

And if you are an employee of a business that needs these things then you should hope to have the best possible ally you can have regardless of party affiliation.

You lose all credibility assigning state issues to a single federal candidate. Not to mention, ky had similar or worse numbers before his tenure. You need to point to 100 years of control in this state by one party.
