I think that Matney had the proper response and it will be a motivating factor. Whether JC wins or loses remains to be seen but you can bet that they'll be playing with a chip on their shoulder.

I never miss my Cats play but today I’m gonna have to record it because I’m going to this Johnson Central vs Boyle County game. Both incredibly talented teams. I have a feeling JC’s gonna take it to Boyle.
IMO, we all have issues we are sensitive about. When someone pushes my buttons, I take the position "That person is ignorant", smirk condescendingly in their direction and go about my business.
Jim gave the proper response because he is a quality man.
I grew up in central Ky. I went to college in central Ky. Afterward, I began my profession in eastern Ky. Anyone that thinks people from eastern Ky are inferior in any way; anyone that thinks kids there are any less intelligent or talented; anyone that thinks people that live there are envious of other's central Ky lifestyle, etc.. is simply deluded, lacks intelligence and has so much insecurity he finds it necessary to harbor misconceptions that there are people in this world that he, in some way, is superior to. They need to be pitied.
Those people need to call my office. I'll schedule them for a couple sessions a week. They need the help.

Not at all. In fact, the complete opposite. There are those in this thread saying the comments directed towards Eastern Kentucky people are overblown and not a big deal. My point was if the same comments were directed at a different group all hell would break loose.
Totally agree. Especially the last paragraph. The PC crowd is insufferable. The “I say offensive stuff on purpose to show how ‘based’ I am” brigade is worse because it’s being said with the intention of offending someone on purpose.
The solution is twofold. Yes, the PC people should toughen up a bit. The anti PC people should ask themselves “is what I’m saying intentionally hurtful and why does it make me feel good to say this?” There’s got to be common ground somewhere.

As long as it seems that you understand Paris is at the top of the Cultural food chain everything you said is okay.

Well said, it's not easy growing up in Eastern Kentucky. Things may be a bit better than before but it was a hard place to live in the '60's and '70's.

My daughter did a summer research project at MIT. One of the other research associates came in to introduce himself, and said he wanted to meet the girl from Kentucky to see whether she wears shoes. The Kentucky stereotypes are everywhere.

Especially the principal of a middle school, which is the age where kids are very impressionable and need to see positive examples set by adults in a position of authority.

The Johnson Co Football coach is above caring about what others think of him. He knows to Whom he is accountable. He said what he said to show his kids how to respond to idiocy. He did a great job being an example for the students.
Yes, by teaching them that Appalachian whites are victims of social prejudice. Not exactly what all parents in that region care to have their children conditioned with. Some, yes. A lot, no doubt. The morally strong among them, no.

He's not teaching them anything remotely related to that comment. What he's doing is letting them know that there are idiots like that out there and how to handle it. What's your problem with Eastern Kentucky? Your posts display some type of underlying issue you have with that part of the state.
When I was in high school the basketball coach let his last block make signs for the team to run through. We were playing McCreary Central and they made a sign that said “Beat McQUEERy” with a picture of a Raider with a pink skirt on. He ended up apologizing over the PA system once the McCreary fans threw a fit bit I can only imagine the outrage if that would have happened recently instead of 15+ years ago.
I feel like we could combine this thread, the counties thread and the Lamar Jackson thread pretty easily.
I think the Johnson County MS principal should have retaliated with...”I wish the Boyle County kids well in their future employment as janitors at Centre College”.
