You might be thinking of Bill Rodgers, perhaps? He was on the of the great marathon runners in US History. But don't think he ever did the mile any major meets.

DD you are correct! Rodgers is who I was thinking of! Hey thanks for "JOGGING" my memory... (couldnt resist!) OFC

Correct! Alan Webb ran 3:46 back in 2007. You're up!

Btw, your son's grandfather (your dad?) Did you mean a friend's grandfather, by chance? You going to let us know who that was, by the way?

My son’s maternal grandfather ran for N.C. State. Beat Ryun only once.

Will give you a hint. After finally beating Jimmy Connors he was quoted “ No one beats————17 times in a row.”

Probably a name I wouldn't recognize, I guess. I've gotten to know quite a few NC State runners over the years, but not sure I've known any that ran there before 1980 (unless Rollie Geiger ran there back in the day?).

Vitas and Ruta Gerulaitis
He died from carbon monoxide poisoning . Poolhouse where he was sleeping had pool heater that was not vented properly. The proper piece of pipe cost 1.44. Vitas was 40 years old.

I've heard that name before and it's driving me crazy why I can't associate it with any thing. I'm going to take a wild guess because of " Fast Eddie " sounds like a pool hustler so is it billards? OFC

Pittsburg Condors. OFC

BOOM SKY! YOU GOT IT! Verga was with the Condors and played w/not only one of the ABA's best but TOUGHEST son of a guns EVER in John Brisker!

Sad day when Verga was traded to Pittsburgh, as he still had a lot of basketball in him I truly believe.Carolina Cougars had a new coach who ADMITTED IN HIS OWN BOOK of not liking Verga. Tom Mesherry BURIED Verga on the bench, because of nothing more than a deep dislike for Bobby.

I was at the Cougars game when Verga started eating popcorn on the Cougars bench. If you knew what Bob had been thru, you couldnt blame him one iota for it. Yes sir no 11, and one of Duke's all-time greats. Could shoot it like Langdon,Armstrong, Redick, and all the rest....Sorry Sky- rant over, you are up buddy! OFC
