Hint. He played for one of these two teams. NY Yankees or the Boston Red Sox. OFC
That’s why I wish that I could remember his name because I knew that it happened in that game and I can remember so many other stats from that game because I saw the highlights on SportsCenter but the one thing that I can’t remember is the players name that hit the first homerun lol

Will Clark and Rafael Palmerro slugged their way to the college baseball hall of fame at Mississippi State, and went on to great big league careers.

They had a teammate who batted after them at Miss. St., who later went on to the big leagues where he broke a MLB record himself.

Who was the 3rd Miss. State slugger from that vaunted team to find stardom in the Bigs, and what MLB record did he hold.

He hit it in the 1st. inning. OFC
Yep and a Red Sox player also hit a homerun in the 1st inning. The score was tied 6-6 after the first inning. The final score was 17-13. The 30 total runs were the 3rd most in major league history and the 2nd most in a game between the Yankees and Red Sox. I could remember all of those stats after seeing the highlights on SportsCenter but I couldn’t remember the players dang name because I don’t watch Baseball anymore and know that many current players names lol

Megan rapinoe.....oh wait you said Mens......oh wait

Not Pele or Maradona. Rapinoe isn't even in the top 10 for Women, FWIW. But if you can name the top women's goal scorer, I'll take that too (hint: she played in the 2019 World Cup).

Abbey Womback is the women's leader, but soon to be passed by Christine Sinclair.

Wambach is tied for second. The all-time leader for the women is not American. I don't see anyone breaking the record anytime soon. Maybe Alex Morgan if she's able to play in the WC in 2023 and 2027. The all-time leading goal scorer for women's has also been the FIFA World Player of the Year 6 times (including the most recent one in 2018).

For the men i figure it's probably a Brazilian or a German

A German is first, yes. His last WC was in 2014 and I want to say he broke the record in the Semifinals when Germany torched Brazil in the semifinals.

The record for women is 17 goals - and for men, it is 16.

I was at the Open in 1975 . In the semis Connors beat Borg 7-5,7-5,7-5.
Orantes was down 2-1 in sets to Vilas and down 0-5 15-40 in the 4th. He saved the 2 match points and won 7 straight games to get to 5th set. I believe he may have been down 1-4 in fifth and came back again to win 6-4. Match ended really late and yet he came back next day to beat Connors in straight sets.
