Very similar, but at the risk of not giving away any spoiler alerts...Is this like Hunger Games theme?

But I agree with Tico, and this is coming from someone normally lacking any interest in watching subtitled shows. It's lived up to our youngest son's hype thus far.
I actually saw this with the English voiceovers. Sounds like I was going arching those Kung fu movies on Channel 5 back in the day. Might watch it in Korean with the subtitles next time.Very similar, but at the risk of not giving away any spoiler alerts...

I thought it was good, it kept me engaged. Some slow moments as they set up the characters but for the most part 40 mins. felt like 15. Do it with the subtitles though. Like @tico brown said, I tried at 1st with English, not good, felt like I was watching a 70's dubbed Kung fu movie. Huge twist at the end will make you want to review moments in earlier episodes.Maybe I'll give it a go. I was thinking a few weeks ago that I haven't anything good on TV in a long time
I think he was just happy someone finally picked it up. He's been trying for something like 8 yrs. before Netflix scooped it up.It was good.
Guess the writer never expected a 2nd season even though it is set up perfectly.
We would've done the same but were advised not to (and now I can appreciate why).I actually saw this with the English voiceovers. Sounds like I was going arching those Kung fu movies on Channel 5 back in the day. Might watch it in Korean with the subtitles next time
I used to watch a lot of foreign films with subs so I am used to them. A key is that the bigger the screen the less subs seem like reading - they are "just there" like a tree in a landscape.I thought it was good, it kept me engaged. All in all I'm disappointed in Netflix. Most of their stuff I watch for about 15 minutes and lose interest.
However this was extremely well done with some horrific, gut wrenching and tear jerking moments. I thought the actress who played the main female character was outstanding. Believe it or not she's 27 years old.
Agree with one of the posters that Episode 6 was incredible and one of the best single TV episodes I've seen in a long time.
I binge watched the entire series over a day and a half. I highly recommend it.
p.s. I watched it in Korean with English close captions. The show was so good that after the first episode the out of synch stuff was something that I didn't even notice.
The subtitles were often different than the english dub... I think they might be better off NOT trying to make the spoken words sync to the lips in the dubbing... just get good voice actors... but reading the captions conveyed complex dialog much better than the dub.I actually saw this with the English voiceovers. Sounds like I was going arching those Kung fu movies on Channel 5 back in the day. Might watch it in Korean with the subtitles next time.
I DLed 9 episodes with subs in 1080p - looks good at just a glance. I'm sure I'll get distracted and have to replay stuff. I do faulty-tasking instead of multi-tasking lolI thought it was good, it kept me engaged. Some slow moments as they set up the characters but for the most part 40 mins. felt like 15. that marbles game was f*ked up. Really sad with some of those outcomes.
Also 2 big twists near the end.
That was like the series Fouda from Israel. The subtitles were often different than the english
Agreed. The marble episode was brilliantThe marbles episode was great television. It's the best single episode of a series since The Sopranos
The thing with that episode was the different ways each pair got to the endThe marbles episode was great television. It's the best single episode of a series since The Sopranos
So you think Biden should play the role of that senile old guy that pisses his pants?Shouldn't leaders of countries who are in huge debt playing squid games to get their country out of debt?
Speaking of which, there is a hit song called "Let's Go Brandon," where they have a lyric:So you think Biden should play the role of that senile old guy that pisses his pants?
I guess it fits...
Maybe we can wipe out our trillions of dollars of debt from it, if he wins.

Controlled? Masked?Speaking of which, there is a hit song called "Let's Go Brandon," where they have a lyric:
"That’s what they get for treatin’ us like we in Squid Game"
What exactly is this lyric supposed to mean?
Don't have the time to dig into the Squid game. Are they controlled and/or masked? I hate when I don't get lyrical references.Controlled? Masked?
I have not watched it yet.Don't have the time to dig into the Squid game. Are they controlled and/or masked? I hate when I don't get lyrical references.
Well, that leaves me out.overall.. well done. recommended if not squeamish.
but u don't hate listening to trash music?Don't have the time to dig into the Squid game. Are they controlled and/or masked? I hate when I don't get lyrical references.

Yes, this. The Long Walk was a great short novel and a similar concept. Exactly what I thought of first when watching the show.Haven't watched it yet; frankly this thread was the first I even heard of it. Initial impression from what I've read is like a spin on Stephen King's The Long Walk.
I've never heard it, sounds like some low class zee garbage. That "song" is trending everywhere..it's hard to avoid not hearing any of it or reading about the lyrics.
Subtitles is the only way to go. Can't imagine not hearing the actual actors' voices playing the roles. Can't stand voiceovers and won't watch them any more.I actually saw this with the English voiceovers. Sounds like I was going arching those Kung fu movies on Channel 5 back in the day. Might watch it in Korean with the subtitles next time.
