OT: Stay in NJ program question

There is no Exit Tax. NJ requires the withholding for when people move out of state because they were not filing the income tax return that was due when they moved. If they file their return they just enter that amount as part of the withholding.

This type of withholding originated because out of state owners of land were selling to companies like Wawa and never paid NJ any tax that was due.

Prepayment of potential Cap. Gains tax..in essense a state escrow not a tax.

Senior Freeze payments are issued first, on a payment schedule, depending on when you apply. The earliest payment will be issued July 15, 2025. ANCHOR payments will start September 15 and continue on a rolling basis, with most applicants receiving payment within 90 days, unless additional information is required. Stay NJ payments will be made quarterly beginning in 2026, with payments scheduled for February, May, August, and November. February and May payments are subject to the Fiscal Year 2026 State Budget, and August and November payments are subject to the Fiscal Year 2027 State Budget.

This program blows. A little band-aid on a gaping wound. You still have to pay the full amount and wait for the rebate. It would be WAY more valuable to get the credit up front.

At over 65 I receive a lot of money. I understand why they do it, but would rather younger people get as much of a break as I do. My property taxes are basically cut in half.

Skipped WDW this year and went to New England. Had a very nice time.

Been busy with family issues. Both mom and dad passed in the last few months. They had a wonderful life and were 93 and 92. Married 70 years. Both were ready to go.

Sorry for your losses. It's never easy. My Mom made it to 96--it was time to go, but it was still hard.

Good concept poor execution on Stay NJ.

Need to keep state pension payments within the state rather than sending checks to Florida and South Carolina.

93 and 92 with 70 years of marriage is amazing. Always tough to lose your parents, but that run deserves a celebration.

We actually had planned a Mother Day's celebration in honor of my mom who had passed away. The night before dad made himself some tea and then sat in his chair and passed away.

We celebrated both of them at the Mother's Day party.

We all thought we were rich. We did not realize we were not until my sister went to a private college and we found out how rich people really were.
