I figured I'd share this here, since a lot of you are big music fans and maybe grew up listening to this guy...

I spent the first half of Sunday doing electrical work on my old, old house. I was crawling through rat turds and nests in the crawlspace for hours yesterday morning thinking my life couldn't get any shittier (pun intended).

In the afternoon, we decided to take the kid to our friends' house to swim. At about 4p, my friend (the pool owner) randomly asked, "hey, you want to go see the Beach Boys?" I replied, "of course, when is it?" And he said, "In about 2 hours."

I thought he was talking about the far future. Knowing that The Beach Boys are always touring, and Brian Wilson doesn't play with them, I declined. I told him I had to leave for work early in the morning, and I was swimming and didn't have a good change of clothes, etc. But he kept pressing. Come on, let's go. Come on. I finally agreed. I had never been to the Hollywood Bowl and just decided it was a good opportunity to go see it.

A couple hours later, I'm sitting in a front area box at the Hollywood Bowl not watching the Beach Boys, but rather watching Brian Wilson's 50th Anniversary of Pet Sounds; most likely his final performance.

At the end of the album set list, up gets Leo Dicaprio and Tobey Maguire from a box nearby, just in front of us, and they scurry away to beat the crowd. Then, the band comes back on stage for the encore, and they perform a number of the Beach Boys biggest hits.

I took this video of the last song they performed and probably Brian's final performance on stage. You're welcome to take a look at the link if you'd like. It's a bit big, like 200 or something MB, so it will take a decent bandwidth. I didn't notice when I was recording, but the guy in the video to the left with the baseball cap might be Leo because that was his attire when I saw him leaving earlier. Maybe he heard the encore and returned to his seats, and I didn't notice it? The video isn't clear enough to tell definitively though.

Thanks for posting.
Got to see them in Dallas 40 years ago with the original line up including Brian.
They played 3 hours at the old Memorial auditorium. Ticket was 4 bucks.
Still have the stub packed away in a shoebox.
However, sounds like you witnessed history last night.
Good call to go see them.
