I posted on the Paddock but hadn't much input, as engagement level is pretty low over there. I'm adding to RRs to hopefully get more insights for myself and other future posters who are looking at attending other UK sports outside of Men's Basketball and Football.
I am taking my daughter to her (and my) first UK volleyball game next weekend for senior night at Memorial. Any tips or suggestions to make this a great experience for her?
We've been to a handful of Men's Basketball games and always enjoy those, especially going courtside for the postgame. For anyone who has attended VB at Memorial.. anything good to share?
First, you'll love the re-design of Historic Memorial Coliseum. By itself, it is worth going to either a volleyball or WBB game.
Second, the game against Arkansas is at 4:00pm, so depending on the age of your daughter (better maybe if she's a little older like middle school age or above), then after the game, take her to the Champions Kitchen (open Sundays 5-10pm for dinner) inside the Gatton Student Center across the street from the coliseum. It's a little known fact that the public -- as opposed to just faculty, staff, and students -- can use the main UK dining facility called the "Champions Kitchen." The cost is $12.98 plus tax, but that includes your choice of many different selections of foods served that night, plus desserts and drinks all included. As a staff member and season ticket holder (and sometimes student!), I really enjoy the food, the atmosphere, and the convenience of being able to top off a game with dinner there, which even at the public price (staff price is discounted) is a great deal. Your daughter will experience first hand the college environment -- a great way to introduce her to life at UK and the possibilities of getting her college education there. As a UK grad and a born member of BBN, I love UK for so many reasons, and this is one of them (I like to eat!). It will be a fun way to share some time with your daughter. They really do a superb job at the Champions Kitchen.
Finally, the volleyball we play at UK is lots of fun to watch. There will probably be a big crowd, so get there early to get a decent parking spot. Consult ukathletics.com for details on things you need to know before the game. Cheers! Max
