Has anyone seen Van Halen on the current tour? I went Friday night in The Woodlands (Houston Area) and man.... Diamond Dave has lost it. He was an ok performer, but man the singing was awful. The music was still pretty awesome, but I walked away knowing that I will never buy a ticket to them again.

On another note, Kenny Wayne Shepard was amazing, and I wasn't expecting it. Dude can wail.

Not surprising. They were the ultimate party band in their prime, but Dave hasn't been the same for a long long time.

It's probably been 5 years since they were last in Omaha, and it was a really good show then (very expensive too).

All performers have off nights, so you might have just been unlucky to catch Dave on a bad night. He is getting up there in age too, so it might have something to do with it.

Yeah, he mentioned a few times at the show 63 is the new 80. I think he is done though. Not that I'm a Van Hagar fan, but at least he can still belt it and will actually sing. He would be a better choice for the live shows.

I was going to buy tickets to see them at Red Rocks. I shared this thought with someone that happened to have seen them recently. They told me they were not good at all, so I didn't buy the tickets.

Diamond Dave never had a great voice, and it's gotten even worse. It wasn't an off night, Google VH and watch some of his performances now. He is effing horrible, so much so I wouldn't go see their show if you gave me the tickets. I don't want to remember them like that.

At least Hagar can still sing/perform. Unfortunately - Eddie won't ever work with him again because of his paranoid drug/alcohol induced delusions. They likely would be better off getting a new lead singer if they want to keep touring because Dave sucks.
If you prefer to remember Van Halen in their prime - don't go. If you never had a chance to see them until now.....hope Dave gets fired and they hire somebody that can sing the full VH catalog.
Some voices don't age well - Geddy Lee is not the same guy he was in the 70s - but he does alot of things to try and make his voice the best he can for tours (well...he did - Rush is probably done touring) . Don't expect Dave to actually try and improve his voice.

Admittedly, Geddy's voice is an acquired taste. And it is a million times better than Dave's.
