They started blowing snow 2 days ago on Excelarator ... I also get the feeling A Basin is making snow but they have their webcam on High Noon showing a picture from a week ago to maybe pull a surprise with a voila overnight they are open. Here is a link to see Copper Mountain as the snow machines are on the far right of the cam and were making snow into mid morning today. So rejoice ski and snow hounds as winter is upon us....

Oh to live on...Copper Mountain...with the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Copper Mountain,
Though youre thinking that
You're leaving their too soon
You're leaving there too soon

Slow your roll there B. Here are the items that you are correct about:
1) Copper fire up their guns below the Excelerator lift.

Here are the items that you are stretching the truth on:
1) The guns are not going to stay on production, this was a test run and it was a training day for new snowmaking staff. I can confidently say this as I know one of the new staff members.
2) While I wish you were correct that Winter is upon us, there are many days between where we are now and Winter.

And just so it is clear to everyone (if it isn't obvious from my handle), I am as eager as anyone for winter to be here. All of that said, the high country did receive snow last Thursday night and Friday night. In fact, it was still snowing Saturday afternoon going over Berthoud pass on my way home from Steamboat.

I skied Copper, Keystone, Breck, Beaver Creek, and Vail for almost 45 years and most openings are in mid to late November. A-Basin and Keystone usually have a race to see who opens first but it is usually only a run or 2. That being said forecasters are predicting more central and northern mountain snow in Colorado this year, so we shall see. We were up checking out the Aspen gold yesterday and Mt. Massive did have a fair amount of early season snow.7B06F0A7-B08A-4972-96D8-30E7B859F5FF.jpeg

What really sucks is that I am getting a hip replacement in December so I can’t go out west this year. Been going there for 35 years.

Well I would slow your roll there amigo and maybe talk to more people at Copper in an official capacity. People asked them directly on social media if this was a test run. Copper Mtn has said no they are running the guns for the season. They have run the guns every night this week for the entire night. That is not a test run. Now you can debate when they will open. They have posted mid november. The real reason they are running the guns is for the U.S. Ski team and training. They do this basically every year for the ski team. The ski team trains there before they officially open in Nov. This is nothing new to regulars there. Everyone knows when winter officially starts it was in reference to ski season starting not the meteorological official start of winter. Yeesh talk about a downer of a post.

Is it? Do you have one? I hope so.
More of a board joke than medical assessment. My next door neighbor was running marathons about 4 months out from his 2nd left hip replacement, though. He’s turning 70 this month.

I have great memories of Copper Mountain as I worked there in the mid 70's and was the Director of Marketing. The key staff members there then later became a virtual "who's who" of future ski resort leaders.

First place I ever skied out west was Copper Mtn. back in ‘87. Went with a bunch of my friends from Penn State.

Had not been out skiing for a few years until last year and went to Steamboat. Absolutely the worst conditions I have ever skied in. They had only like 4 inches of snow from January 1 until we went in mid-late February. Mostly ice and hardpack which made the blue slopes like diamonds. Only had one snowcat running because they couldn’t find any operators resulting in very little amount of groomed slopes. We would have been better skiing in PA for less money.

We just booked our trip to Telluride for this winter. After many years of Summit County, this will be our first trip to Telluride. Can’t wait!

Where are you having it done? Are you having an anterior or posterior hip done?

I am not sure why this happens, the photo was taken correctly and shows right in my photo, but when I insert it it is turned sideways. This only happens on this site. Any suggestions let me know, thanks.

FYI... Copper and Loveland are running the snow guns every night. A Basin hasn't gotten quite cold enough to turn them on albeit they are ready to go just need the temps.
