Willis Reed has passed away at 80. My all time favorite Knick. A warrior, and a legend. So sad.

Those were some great Knicks teams in the 70s. Earl the Pearl, Walt Frazier, Dave Debusschere, Jerry Lucas, Bill Bradley and Phil Jackson and of course the legendary - Red Holtzman.
Willis (injured) emerging from the tunnel to play game 7. Classic sports moment. RIP Big Man.
The greatest game 7 ever especially if you are a Knick fan!!
And that has turned into the classic line for anyone that goes out injured. Will they pull a Willis Reed and limp onto the court to lead the team to victory.

Thanks for locating the videos. 50+ years is a long time - but any of us that watched that game 7 and The Captain's entire career knows what type of person & leader that he was. Truly one of the greatest in NY sports & NBA history. I was pretty young but remember watching that game 7 with my older brother & his friends on channel 6 (Philly station) - cause it was on tape delay in the NY market. Imagine could not watch the game live on channel 7.
I followed most of that Knick season from Vietnam as best I could on Armed Forces Radio Network and came home just in time to witness that heroic championship game. I still get the chills watching those videos.

One of my favorite high school memories: a good friend was a Willis Reed fanatic, so several of us cut class one day so we could go to NYC with her to take flowers to the hospital he was staying at. Of course, we never got close - but I think we got tickets to a Poco concert instead.
Rest in peace big guy. I still remember seeing him enter the court out of nowhere (live) as I was a preteen. But man, what a game and series that was. He will be remembered and missed.Willis Reed has passed away at 80. My all time favorite Knick. A warrior, and a legend. So sad.
My senior year in hs Willis was the guest host at our annual sports banquet. He was very generous with his time, warmly greeted everyone and talked to each of us in a meaningful way. The inside cover of my yearbook has the signature “ Sincere Wishes, Willis Reed.”
Great player and an even better person imo.

What a job by Walt Frazier/Mike Breen for their coverage, and heartfelt thoughts about Willis during tonight's Knicks game. Both Clyde, and Breen were tearful on and off. Anybody else watch? After game, MSG also showed "a lost tape" of game 5 championship game 1973 out in LA. Watching Willis, and Chamberlin battle was epic, Knicks we all know won. Bill Bradley, Earl Monroe great analysis as well.
Willis was pure inspiration but what gets little attention is an incredible performance by Walt Frazier that night. 36 points and 19 assists. Listening to that game on my transistor radio.
