Well, his last game with the Mets was more than a quarter of a century ago. Based on salaries at the time, it was a great deal for him

A million plus a year in retirement is a great way to maintain a high standard of living. I think it worked out well for both parties, as $1 million in salary is a rounding error to Cohen.

From a baseball perspeectiv it was a good deal. getting Bonilla’s salary ppoff the books the Mets freed up budget dollars to make room for the trade for Mike Hampton and the Mets went onto win the pennant. After that 2000 season they lost Hampton to free agency and used thevDraft pick they got as compensation to pick David Wright.
