I should add that a Roku Ultra or Nvidia Shield makes a great difference
The Roko loads and navigates fast, and the remote with volume control makes remote juggling go away
You can plug headphones into the remote
Its usuallly around $100 but it often dgoes on sale at $70 or $50 (Black Friday usuallly)
Check SlickDeals since its often listed there
I use Roku with a cable vs wifi.
The Roku Shield has a lot of extra features but its geeky.

I cut out Fios in April or May -- and now I'm considering adding something back.

I definitely did NOT miss Mets games this year. My wife doens't really want to put $$$ in the hands of Disney or Google, but we already have a Hulu subscription so I'd need to increase that to get live sports.

I'm seriously thinking of just getting an OTA antenna and if a game is on a network, I watch it; otherwise I don't. I'll be at home football games anyway and usually end up not watching games I'm not attending.

Or I could just get FIOS back. It seems like at the current pricing levels it's a wash. We just never watched most of the cable channels, so it was an easy thing to cut out.

We had Youtube TV for years and i loved it but the price just kept going up, eventually where it is now $77 a month. We already had Hulu at $20 a month with the Disney+ and ESPN+ so we dumped Youtube TV for Hulu live and saved $10 a month altogether.

I am thinking of making the jump from FIOS to YouTube TV but the channel thing annoys me to no end. It would be great if they were able to add some sort of voice system where if you have a voice enabled remote for the TV to change the channels. Scrolling through, even after you configure to put your more watched channels at the top, seems pretty lame. For such a technical product, not being able to change the channel in a more concise way, well, kinda dumb to me. LOL.
I know exactly what you are talking about and agree. Scrolling through, squinting at little icons to see which channels are which. Technically it can be a pain in the ***. But renewing anyway, ha ha...

'You will see an improved image now live on YouTube TV. Any 4K device that supports VP9 codec, a coding format developed by Google, should be seeing better HD images with a higher bitrate. The good news is VP9 is supported by many streaming players, including Rokus and Fire TVs. Google also said it will be working with the NFL to air all league games in 1080p and this will include a combination of original 1080p feeds along with upscaling some games from 720p to 1080p.

You can change channels by voice, at least if you have a TV that uses Google TV (eg Sony) or if you use a Chromecast.

I can even tell my Google assistant... "hey Google turn on family room TV and launch big ten network on YouTube TV" without touching my remote.

Don't forget the channel listing can be edited via Googla acct.
There are way too many useless channels for me so I snip-n-clip them out

Good tip.

I tried it out. Voice works for switching channels on Nvidia Shield. It’s a little buggy with some of the premium channel variations outside of the main channel like say HBO vs HBO signature. It works for the main channel but for other variations of that channel, it’ll say it doesn’t exist. Other than that though, it worked pretty well for bunch of channels I tested.

Didn’t work with the LG Tv, as that uses the native YouTube tv app on LG OS.

How do you delete a recording from your YouTube library
I don’t. I’m not sure there is a way either. It’s unlimited but it’ll automatically delete after about 9 months iirc.

So I just let stuff sit there. It doesn’t limit anything else I can record.

Yea I have a bunch of sports things or even multiple copies of particular shows/movies. It’s been a good way to watch old shows that I’ve never watched before. Every episode (in multiple copies) of a show gets recorded and then boom eventually you have the whole library of that show and can watch at your leisure and time table. I’ve been slowly watching Yellowstone that way.

No matter how much is recorded you can still record anything else in the future. It’ll just last about 9mos in your library.

Anyone have it? Need to add it for my Dolphins as DirectTV no longer carrying it. Looking for pros and cons. Wife needs to know can shows still be recorded? Thanks
There is an unlimited recording comes with youtube tv with no extra charge. You can select any team for future recording by clicking on the + icon and on "add to library" until you remove it from library. You can program a single event for the library or all episodes, future games or even any sport event associated with your chosen school. I switched from Verizon TV to youtube tv and saved $480/year and have at least three times more watchable channels. The channel guide looks boring, but a new colorful channel guide is going to be released in few days. You need to get used to the interface, but it is much smarter than what others offer. I have it only three weeks, but I am satisfied after the bad FIO experience. I am still using for FIO for Internet but since I dropped their tv package, their Internet service slowed down significantly, Optimum offers 500 MB fiber Internet Service for $40/month that is by the best price and the service is actually better than the FIO service. I will go back to optimum after two years with FIO.

Can I get Met games or Ranger games in Northern NJ? Don’t think they have SNY or MSG. Are there sport packages? If so are local games blacked out?

That’s what I thought, so if I buy a sports package will it include local games or will they get blacked out?
Yttv offers Sports Plus package for 10.99/month that adds like 15 sports channels (eg Red Zone, Tennis channel, beIN, VSN, Fan Duel etc..),but these have nothing to do with local games. The base yttv plan has most of the mainstream sports networks (espns, Fox sports CBS sports B1G Network ACC network etc). Any games carried by SNY, MSG and YES are not available at all through YTTV no matter what package you have

MSG and YTTV is a convoluted situation
I guess Google/Alphabet thought MSG situation was too nebulous and fraught with legal/financial issues.
At one time it seemed MSG might be for sale.
Now they are selling shares of the teams and parts of the Garden.
NYC only gave MSG a 5 year extension since they want to remodel Penn Station.

Yes, without 4k, it's limited to 3. 4k is unlimited
While one user can access YouTube Tv only through 3 devices, every account could have up to 6 users; therefore, technically one account can access up 18 devices (any combination of TVs, computers, phones, etc.)

I meant to ask this earlier. I have been forced to cut the cord and I was trying to pick which streaming service is best (with sports in mind). I am currently on a free trial with YouTube TV, and I really like it so far! Is there anything better? I like the multi-view option, and I catch all the games it seems.

Let me know…

We like Hulu a lot. We get BTN on it and get to watch a lot of games. I have not tried YouTube. We also get Disney and Netflix.

I cut the cord with xfinity but just used the xfinity stream app. What a cluster f that was. That app is a piece of crap so I switched to YTTV. OMG so much better. I run it through my Apple TV box. The picture is sooooo much better and the app never locks up - both were issues with Xfinity Stream app.

YouTube TV is much easier to navigate than Hulu but you don’t get SNY or MSG. If you are looking to find out what is on live tv at anytime Hulu totally sucks. I just dropped it. Am going to try Fubo or go back to YouTube Tv for the non baseball season.

Unless something changed recently, I think the 3 device limit is the combined limit for all family group members together on YouTube TV. Only 3 streams can occur simultaneously in the entire family group, not 18.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Location requirements work the same if you're sharing your YouTube TV membership with a family group. The family manager sets the home area, and each family member must primarily live in the same household.
Family group members need to periodically use YouTube TV in your home location to keep access. Otherwise, the family manager will have to change the home location. If the family manager can't change the home location, family group members must get an individual membership.
Note: If you're using YouTube TV while traveling, you'll get access to certain programs based on your location. Learn more about using YouTube TV while traveling.

Simultaneous streaming

Family group members can use YouTube TV on up to three separate devices at the same time. If one member is watching on both a computer and a mobile device, it counts as two of the three available devices.
If you're a family member whose family cancels their YouTube TV membership, you can sign up for an individual membership. To sign up, leave your family group and then sign up for YouTube TV with your own Google Account.

  • "While each YouTube TV subscription supports up to six separate accounts, the three device limit still applies at all times, regardless of which account is using the platform.
  • Each YouTube TV subscription allows for up to six separate user accounts, so each viewer can create a unique profile for customized suggestions and private DVR libraries. Up to three accounts can stream content simultaneously.

We have two places 7 tvs and go back and forth between NJ and Ma. It works in both places with local channels. Also have three personal devices and my daughter uses it in her place as well in nj. My son uses it in Texas.

Four games at once on Saturday. And both NFL games on split screen is fantastic.

What’s so hard about Hulu?
It’s been a couple of years since I tried Hulu and switched back to YTTV (they may have improved the interface). Here is what I wrote last year…

My biggest issue with Hulu was with their ads. They force you to watch them—particularly on the DVR. I can’t even channel surf because when I come back it forces me to finish the ads. It really sucks because you can’t start a game a half hour late and fast forward through the commercials. You have to watch them all. Part of the reason I DVR stuff is to avoid commercials. I even paid extra for fewer ads, and it did very little. The unlimited DVR on YTTV is hard to give up. On Hulu you get only so much space. Finally the user interface isn’t nearly as good. YTTV allows you to put channels in whatever order you want. You can group them and choose not to list channels that you don’t watch. Also, the Hulu guide only allows you to see a few channels at once, and it doesn’t let you look as far ahead in time. The user interface part may vary by platform. I use FireTVs.
