Rasmussen with a reversal and backs in the last 10 seconds to beat Hopke and win the dual. Kemdog wanted to cut him to start the period that was the right call but they didn't do it. Rasmussen only went for a reversal he was never looking for 1
That was crazy. Volk and Vombaur both losing surprised me. Early season but good w for the jackrabbits

Eggum is never going to take the Gophers anywhere near to trophy contention.

The list of good wrestlers that have reached new heights after leaving the Minnesota program is large and growing.

Ole Brandon got the job after J was booted because the AD was too lazy to do a legit national search.
Kinda fun watching the Hawks pisspound the Gophs EVERY year.

Eggman keeps his job because hockey is king in the State.

Sad for Minnysoda. Here in New England, hockey is wildly popular and runs over everything in its path, including wrestling. Very expensive for parents to outfit their kids.: pads, skates, sticks, uniforms, ice rinks, etc. Almost every affluent town seems to have an ice rink.

Wrestling requires a mat and shoes. Very frugal. I choose wrestling. (y)

What does your post have to do with my comment?

Eggum slides by because Gopher's have about 250 fans.

Eggum is a total failure. He is staying to get his kid a free education. He has destroyed the program it may not ever be a top 5 program again. They keep guys around like Sanders and Becker. Don’t worry Kemmer will be available in 2 years. As a wrestling fan I hate to see solid program fade but the u of m does it to every sport.

When’s the last time a top ten program axed a coach for performance and when do I think the next one will happen?

In college wrestling, where there are around 70 D-1 programs, being a marginal top ten team with a storied history and likely decent resources...losing to SDDU isn't exactly a "feather in your cap".
In reality, the ONLY thing that has kept them slightly relevant is Gable Steveson.

He has zero eligibility.
But hey, as an Iowa fan, give Eggum a lifetime contract.😜😜😜😜😜

Probably OKST for Taylor. Not sure how that shook out, exactly.
Minnesota doesn’t have a Taylor and billionaire donor waiting in the wings like okyst did. They didn’t fire Smith, just “encouraged “ him to retire. I’m sure he was handsomely rewarded, and I think Smith wanted to see them back on top and knew he wasn’t going to do it.

The point being you’re not going to see any of these programs firing their coach unless there’s a scandal or they fall off the map.

His kid is a solid wrestler. He wont have to waste a scholarship on him. The administration thinks above 500 is success and top 20 make you relevant. No coach at minnesota is in jeopardy of losing their job. They will always have 1-3 AAs but that is about it. Iowa is calling for heads if you dont have 7 or more.

In our jobs, we should all have bosses with such low expectations!
1-3 AAs should be the goal for the Wisconsins and Purdues of the world.

About to fall asleep here watching the PSU meet, no competitive matches. But to be honest, will watch the Hawk women this afternoon also.

They played yesterday (Hawk Women), but maybe you're aware of that? Won't give you the spoiler info.

Christian Carroll over Ghadiali 11-2
Carol was the #1pfp coming out of high school at 220, and was a huge 220 who manhandled Ben the last time they wrestled in high school. I thought he was insane cutting to 197 last year. I was shocked he made weight. He looked 250-260 and was just as quick as when he tried 197. I’ve heard he has had lifestyle problems in the past, but if he can stay healthy and stay out of trouble, he should be top 4-5 no problem.

Figs loses to a nobody in the second round of the mighty Cougar Clash.
This can’t be happening. Remember, like Carl, Taylor works miracles with the way he coaches and develops high guys. Everyone is up Brands *** because the Little Rock guys haven’t lived up to expectations yet, but neither were a former national champion like Figs. Again, there is nothing Special about Taylor or Sanderson as coaches. The secret to success is having a big name and unlimited money to recruit with, so eventually you have blue chip depth at every weight like PSU, and soon OSU also.

Good argument but it doesn't quite explain the loss to ISU or Nebraska finishing higher at the NCAA tournament last year. There is more going on than just that. I think these top kids want to be freestyle first and Iowa just isn't the place for that these days. Cael bends his whole schedule to let them chase U20/U23/ and senior level freestyle.

Agree, lack of a top RTC at Iowa is hurting us. Most of the top kids do seem to be more into international freestyle than college folk style, even though the money and fans are in college wrestling. When Nolf was on Flo talking about how to have a successful college program, he pointed out how smart it was for Taylor to prioritize this right away, and also pointed out how this hurts the Iowa recruiting. Bob mentioned on here that we don’t have the money to have a RTC that attracts top guys. You know wherever Nolf or any other top coaching candidates Iowa may try to get in the future are going to demand bringing HWC up to speed. That’s going to be a problem getting a coach with the ability to take back to the top.

Yeah he whooped BK a couple times if I remember correctly. Braxton Amos could be a guy to watch out for also

The Ghadiali win is impressive but I think that says more about where Ghadiali was at than Carroll. Carroll has lost to Feldman and Mullen this year already.

Agree. This is somewhat surprisingz. Michigan has done well with heavyweight transfers, but Ghadialli looks like he’s gotten fat and slow. Put on some bad weight.

Agree, Ghadialli has been very unimpressive so far this year.
