If OU can somehow win a NC with this defense then it will be nothing short of miraculous
It would mark the first time that only "half" of a team won a national championship.

I love all the shellacking of OU defense when it plays in the most prolific offensive conference in the nation (and of all time).

Not saying it’s very good, but it’s had some moments this year

Every team hold maybe KState is spread/RPO/air raid, with several air raid offspring.

That was Mike Stoops' "Go To" when asked about his defensive performance.
The problem is, his defenses were routinely in the bottom half of the BIG 12, and lots of times as low as 8 or 9 in the BIG12.
You know the BIG12, the conference where every team plays defense against these same prolific offenses.
Mike even had an advantage over all other BIG12 teams, in that his defense is the only one in the conference that did not have to play against OU's offense, further diluting their defensive stats. OU should always be at least top 3 in their own conference.

How do the defense practice with the #1 offense in the nation.

You would think OU's defense would be pretty good practicing against the best offense in the country on a regular basis.

I still see moments of greatness in the defense, however, I think coaching is the biggest problem. When OU plays man and blitzes a LB, they seem to have a lot of success. When OU drops 8 into zone coverage, rushing only 3, they get picked apart by everyone. Also, if you re-watch the West Virginia game, almost all of those chunk plays that scored were LBs covering WRs deep and safeties getting burned.

Why in the world are our LBs covering WRs on stretch plays when they should be rushing the QB.

I think NCAA limitations on practice time, practice time in pads, etc has eliminated that issue. Most "practices" are just going through the motions or going against tackling dummies or no touch scrimmages, etc.
