Threads like this always get me in trouble, but again, gin.

I am an extremely frustrated UK fan. I've been called a troll and a UL fan (are we ever going to agree that "tard" is offensive?) regularly on this board because I refuse to blindly support things that I disagree with.

BUT......

Why does everyone have to either hate Towles or love Towles? Why do we all have to think Stoops should be fired or should be here until he decides to retire? Why is Drew Barker the next Tim Couch or the next Morgan Newton?

I really do question the age of most of you or at least the longevity of your fandom. So many of you keep talking about a "rebuilding" process as if you have only been a fan for 6 years. Others say we have never hired a coach with experience. Does anyone remember us hiring Bill Curry from Alabama? The year we hired him, he won the SEC at Alabama. He had one season at UK where he won 1/2 his games. WE HAVE NEVER WON WITHOUT CHEATING. Then people act like Rich Brooks was Bear Bryant. He scheduled his way into crappy bowl games. He never had UK relevant except for one year when South Carolina exposed us. I was there. I BELIEVED. I wore the T-shirt to prove it.

On the other hand, others blindly support players and coaches that are just not getting it done. There is no way anyone can say our receivers are good. They have dropped way too many good passes to be considered good. I get the criticism of our quarterback, but you are crazy if you think a kid can just start catching passes now because his buddy is throwing them. If that happens, it makes me want to get rid of all of them because they are punks.

I will continue to be contrary just to be so, but reading this board honestly gets me more put out with our fans than with the team and coaches. And before you say "stay off this board", I say, I am a fan, I'm involved, and I deserve to get on here and be frustrated with the team, the coaches and the fans. I've been doing this UK football thing a long time.

Let's beat Charlotte and Louisville, and all have a great Thanksgiving weekend.

Nice post but shouldn't "Tard" be offensive to a tard fan why would it bother anyone else? What is the purpose of the word anyway?

Tard would be offensive because it refers to kids with handicaps. Plenty of people have children that in the old days were called "tards" but as a society we have decided that the term is inappropriate. That is clearly what Uk fans are referring to when they use the term. Do you think Niagra's rival could change a few letters and not be offensive?

You have a good point, but we aren't really talking about kids here.

I guess mentally challenged adults would be more appropriate, but it is so long.

My apologies to anyone with the misfortune to be in that situation through no fault of their own.

I don't want to hurt any feelings here and I don't have anyone in particular in mind when saying this, but IF Barker struggles any this week against Charlotte, people will be wanting Towles to start against Louisville next week. Of course us UGA fans are in a worse boat that UK fans at qb, none of our qbs can throw anything but WR screens and quick slants, sometimes on target, sometimes not, so it doesn't matter which on starts, we dont' like any of them.

You are right, flavor of the week, unless Barker has a very good game the number two QB will be the best man for the job again.

But hopefully he does very well, should be good experience for him in any case, but I would guess that Towles would look pretty good against them also.

Well speaking for myself the OP misrepresents what I have asked for all season. I have repeatedly said from the first game that Barker should be getting some playing time just to get him use to playing college football. I said he and the team would be better served if he was given some reps for experience instead of putting him in a pressure situation similat to what Phillips experienced against UT last year.

Only until recently have I thought Towles should be benched and even then I have not called for that. One of the problems on these boards is people can't differentiate between peoples opinions so they just cubby-hole every opinion into two category's, for or against, hate or love. Not only does that falsely divide the fan base into groups, it dumbs down the conversation so much it excludes talk about prudent preparation of important players on the team.

I don't love or hate Towles but I can certainly read statistics and watch performance. I have not seen much this year from the offense to justify in my mind stubbornly keeping the same QB on the field series after series. I have seen different players perform at every position this year except possibly center and QB.

Center I understand but waiting so late in the season to see what Barker brings to the table, or worse to see if he can salvage a season, a season that should have been much more gratifying, was a mistake in my mind and I don't think that is in any way hateful towards Towles.

To my way of thinking for a staff that talks so much about doing all the little things to prepare, that was a pretty big miscalculation.

What some of us have a hard time understanding is if we had a good qb we would still have lost the same games and many would say how bad he was.

Top to bottom we are a very weak team to be in the SEC. We'd be an average to good mid level team right now and, with the exception of Curci, have always been since Bryant.

I strongly disagree with the fact that our receivers are "punks" if they catch more balls from Barker and have less drops. Some QB's don't throw as catchable of a ball than others. If they dropped Towles passes on purpose, then yes, I'd agree.

Regarding disagreements, they can be healthy as long as both sides respect the other side's opinions. Problem is, that rarely happens on a message board. Another thing about that is when people disagree and share their side while respecting the other, it ends up being a GREAT conversation and fun to read. Instead, I spend time editing and warning people who can't have a civil iscussion and feel like their point is made more valid by calling people names, insulting them, etc.

My motto is this: "Talk to others on the message boards as if they were standing right in front of you."

That's MY rant. haha

Anyway, Go Big Blue!

I agree UK Cats Rock. What's amazing to me is how often one side resorts to immature insults when attempting to prove a point.

I just tune those people out and pay them no mind. It's what's made me a five star poster IMHO.

If it's true that our receivers were quitting on their routes to sabotage Towles, we have much, much deeper problems.

At 58, and with 50 years of being a UK fan under my belt I definitely don't qualify on a couple of counts. I'm frustrated to. I think we all are. Enthusiasm was very high early in the year on this board, and in general. A 5 game losing streak will kill that every time. I think it's fair to question Stoop's. I'll admit some doubt is starting to creep in as to whether he'll make as good of a HC as he did a DC. Being the main man is a much different, and very tough job. I've also been disappointed by Towles' play though I realize it's not all him. Still, when a team loses 5 in a row it's almost always the HC and the QB which take the heat, fair or not. College or pro. Where I draw the line is attacking these men personally. I don't question either's effort, and believe strongly they very much want to succeed. Wanting it isn't enough though, you have to do it. Even if UK wins these last two, and a bowl game Stoops is going to be under a lot of pressure next year from the fans. Anything less than 7-8 wins in the regular season, and even more people will start calling for a change. I applaud to move to go with Barker, and if he plays well, despite the level of competition I believe Towles will have lost his job, and will have to work very hard this off-season to try and get it back.
