Does anybody else hate our offense? I have cringed all the way back to last year seeing Amari have the ball on the perimeter. Am I the only one? Do recruits see the exact same thing? This is my last pointless thread I’m starting today. I apologize in advance.

I wish I could be the coach for their practice one day. Yall ever seen the movie miracle where he makes them run until they finally say who they play for? ….. that’s what it would look like. I’m beyond a pissy little biyatch right now

Offense is fine if you get guys to buy in. 5 star/high level portal guys don’t want to. The result is we take middling guys. Some like Collin do. But they’re rare. Reason Pope says “we mutually part ways”. Well, you got no talent now.

It's a gimmick offense that teams have learned to prep for. Take away the passer at the top of the key, and it's really hard to execute the scheme. It even harder when you don't have adequate shooters/makers.

If you have some guys that can go iso from time to time and spread the D back out, it works. However, this team currently has no one that can do that. And aside from Chandler, we are airballing 3s over and over. It's a complete **** show.

The offense absolutely needs 4 shooters on the floor to flow, and we don’t have that. He will either have to scrap that offense and run something else or we’re gonna have a long year.

Was about to post the same thing. Have to have 4 shooters for it to work. We have one. But by all means, keep throwing two or three bigs out there and trying to run the same offense. We will keep getting lit up.

Like I said last night in another thread Fueger was supposed to be the mad scientist of offensive basketball but he looks to be just stealing money. This whole coaching staff is just a weird bunch of individuals.
They ain’t no law breakers that’s for sure

I don't even know what offense we could run.

As you said, we lack shooters, but we also lack skilled ball handlers aside from Lowe. If we can't shoot, and we can't handle it that well, the only option I see is maybe trying a Bellarmine like passing scheme. But that's going to take knowledge and time to implement. Aside from that, we are going to have to jack a lot of shots and hope we get hot!

Yet, that still leaves us with a massive problem on defense. We played none last year. So far, we might be even worse this year, although that was supposedly the focus of this roster. Pope's previous teams sucked at it as well. So I am really perplexed as to how we plan to address that.

Even with the shooters last year it looked a mess. We may of overlooked how good of a shooter Brea was. Hes stuck on a NBA roster. It’s just bad. It’s do or die. It’s slow. It’s boring. It’s unattractive to recruits. It doesn’t attack like I thought a Pope offense was supposed to. I hate it. Scrap it. Do anything else. Be aggressive. Get dirty. Did Pope forget the intensity his team played with in 96?

I think Pope absolutely has to ditch his starting line-up. I think Aberdeen/Chandler/Williams should be getting a ton of minutes together, and then whatever pieces between Oweh/JJ ano MoD/Moreno make the most sense. If Oweh continues to play poorly, go with JJ. MoD/Moreno is probably a match-up thing, but those should be getting our minutes at the 5. In no world should Oweh/MoD/BG be on the floor together.

I mean, we do need a roster shake up, but Williams is pretty bad so far.

My thought is we have to get Oweh's head out of his *** and make him realize he is not a shooter, but rather a rim attacker and semi mid range guy.

If that happens, IMO, Aberdeen, Chandler, Oweh, MO and Moreno should be starters.

Aberdeen and chandler can shoot pretty well. Moreno can hit some from deep as well, and he also has some offensive skills in the paint. Mo should stop taking 3s, should be a low-post scoring threat and putback threat. His D is what we really wanted anyway.

Done with Oweh. Rather lose with him on the bench than look like he’s a part of the betting scheme going on and can’t play because he’s shook.

Absolutely this! We ran a version of the 5-out last year and we had shooters to spread the floor and make space for cutters. We CANNOT play 3 guys at the same time who can't shoot. Pope has himself in a corner with this roster and he needs to modify which players are on the floor together. Our starting 5 only features 2 shooters—no wonder we look stagnant. BTW, our offense isn't a gimmick; we just aren't playing the right lineups to run it effectively, IMO.

Looks more like a lack of effort on both sides of the ball to me. Players either don't know what to do or more likely, just aren't executing on either side. People standing around on offense and constantly out of position on D. Still going under screens and not switching or staying with their guy.

Did we even run any offense last night? We seemed to runa 2 in 3 out motion at times but not very well. If we ran any sets I missed them. We certainly had no desire to rebound either.

And what was our defensive plan? It certainly looked like we planned to just give them the 3 point shot and hope they missed. But in the post game press conference Pope said that was not the plan.

There was no order to anything. Offense or defense.

If you are going to run a starless offense like we supposedly do then everyone has to run it. If you are going to run a Princeton offense or triangle then everyone has to run it. Even one guy going rogue ruins the timing and flow. We have more than one guy going rogue.

There's no way our offense is set up to Mo D open 3's. If it is then fire that person today.

Yes, they see the same thing, and you KNOW it's talked about on the recruiting trail. Of course a competing coach is going to tell them "at our program we have our PG's generate the action, not have the C out there at the top of the key". BYU was running a lot of different looks when Pope was there, but didn't really see that here last year. Same thing when Cal brought in that offensive guru. Saw a lot of movement for a few games and then it just stopped.

I was fine and liked Williams initiating offense. He was a point center. It helped pull bigs away from the paint to let that fraud Oweh look better getting to the rim.

I had no problem with Williams bringing the ball up last year it worked, but this year I would like to see less jacking up bad three's and more posting up for the ball then if the defense collapses kick it out for the three.

No I love our offense, but Pope is gonna have to go back to getting the right guys for it. He also needs to find a defensive coordinator and never have anything to do with defense. Let someone who knows what they are doing coach that. Pope’s offense isn’t just great — look around at CBB and you will see a lot of people are using it now for a reason

Supposed to be a offensive genius and we look worse than some of Cals offenses. 😬😬😬.
Maybe the sum of the parts are just bad offensively ? Or Coach is a little over hyped as a offensive juggernaut.

I am indifferent here, most of the sets look really good.
We beat Mich St so many times on a back cut only to get blocked or not finish at the rim. Missed several open 3s and even flubbed a few fast breaks. Heck make 2 more 3s and half of those cuts and this game is pretty close. Offense is not something that bothers me, defense on the other hand.
