It's real simple. Mitchell and Owen are playing for 2nd place, until next week, and then week 5. I still think there is a good chance for a 3 way tie for 1st. I could be completely wrong, and I'll eat my words and take everything Stampede throws at me if I am, but I dont think Owen will be able to move the ball on Mitchell's defense. It will be a real test tho, because Smoky couldn't pass, and Statesville couldn't get past the line of scrimmage. Owen will be much more balanced on offense, and I see either a low score defensive slugfest, or a high scoring shootout. The former favoring Mitchell, and the latter favoring Owen. Time will tell, and it is so much better with Owen being back in the discussion.

What makes you think MtnHeritage is going lose this season. We have already played toughest non conference schedule. Between you guys I think Owen has best shot beating us, they have more speed
Lol toughest non conference? 3rd and 4th place mountain 6 teams. That conference title is going to be played this week between Smoky and Pisgah. Mitchell has already seen more speed than they will the rest of the season, until the state championship of course. I dont know if you saw it or not, but the mountaineers handled that speed just fine.
Brevard and Hendersonville were both pick higher in preseason polls by the coaches .
It's still too early to declare this team is great and this one sucks but we are starting to get an idea. Statesville was a good win for Mitchell but you have to talk about the field and weather conditions. It did play a factor. Statesville also struggled to beat South Caldwell 28-19 who is similar to McDowell (we play them this week) and it was South first game.
On the other hand Owen has played nobody with a pulse and haven't had to flex their muscles yet. West Henderson is way down after losing to north and well east is east.
Last but not least, Heritage did beat Brevard and Hendersonville. Brevard was pretty lackluster in their game over North Iredell. They only won by 12 over a team that usually wins 1 game or less a season. Hendersonville is average this year and doesn't have the line play to challenge.

I’d say our non conference schedule was much tougher. But y’all are going to be hard to beat. I wouldn’t say speed of Owen or Mitchell will beat heritage. To beat heritage you have to win at line of scrimmage. Not sure if Owen or Mitchell either one can do it, but that’s how u beat heritage.
I am really not gonna call anyone out Mountie. I think y’all have every right to think you are gonna win and I think I have every right to think we are gonna win. The fact is that the kids and coach’s will settle it on the field not us. In this wacky world we are living in I just don’t know what either of us are truly gonna do Friday. It’s young men who could play great or play terrible. Who knows. I just hope my team wins
To bad Heritage doesn't have game this week, our players need more game experience. The Silvers kid that plays quarterback reminds me of Noah Pitman, amazed how much better he is this year, joey really coaching him up.
The line of scrimmage is where the game is won 9 out of 10 times. That being said we are undersized there but the speed and athleticism of our lines I believe is enough to win the conference. Then you kick in our skill and it makes me feel pretty good. What concerns me is the lack of competition thus far. I just hope we are ready for a competitive game this week. Go Horses!!
First off I predict you will beat mitchell, your line will do good against them . When we come to the valley you will face best line in western highlands game over. Go ahead and celebrate if you win Friday, because we both know deep down that you lose to us. As long joey is our coach everyone else is playing for 2nd place.
Y’all without a doubt are like Owen in the 80s and 90s but that run will end someday maybe this year.
Junior over there seems to have forgotten all those 0-11 and 1-10 seasons heritage used to have. Joey is a good coach, but he weathered many a bad season to establish a program. It didnt hurt either, that yancey county has had a healthy string of talent for the last decade. We are all small schools, talent comes and goes, and we are all but one injury away from a losing season. Stay humble, enjoy the good years, because bad ones are sure to come.

Yancey county has always had athlete, look at our basketball program in those bad days. Now we have best coach in western nc, he has built a program not a team. This run will last long long time.

It’s amazing how people forget history. Mitchell was fairly dominant from 85-90. We were competitive from 94-99. We hardly ever lost to heritage or Avery. Then Avery had a great run. Now heritage is having theirs. Owen was the most consistent in the 90s. They were every bit as dominant as heritage is now. Sun don’t shine on same ole dogs arse every day. It’s doesn’t last forever.
All runs come to an end or even out at some point. Do I think it’s this year for Heritage no. But I think the Owen and Mitchell games will be good competitive games. But like you said earlier we all expect our team to win. My son is a 2nd year starter on the defense so I’m definitely saying Heritages run continues this year lol. I would have like to have seen how some of the teams from the last 5-6 years would have done in 1a. I know there were some great teams in both 1a and 1aa though also over that same period.
We dominated from 85-90. The 86 team was the best team in school history. We had several d1 players during that time and couple first team college all Americans. That was before you were squeezed out. Ask Joey he played on those teams. They would’ve handed the best heritage team their arse
Y’all haven’t ever won anything beyond what we have and in basketball we’ve been farther in men’s than y’all and won more championships in women’s. Football wise I’ll take losing to y’all beating everyone else and playing in the western region finals every year.

Can I make a prediction? Naw, I will make a statement. I don’t care who goes 1a, To come out of the west, until history changes, everyone MUST go through the SMC. Which has proven easier said than done. And once you do that to go further than Mitchell or Heritage has been you MUST deal with Tarboro. And Heritage has been down that road.
I am just glad that both programs are at at point where these types of discussions are even relevant. I am old enough to remember many 0-3 win seasons for both teams. Heck, I will predict that one or both schools may return there again.
As for this week, Owen should/will be the best team Mitchell has faced. Owen is licking their chops to exact a little revenge on Mitchell after the past few seasons and are very capable of doing so. As with most games line play and turnovers will be huge in this one. Call me a bad fan but I will be surprised to see a Mitchell W in this one. Got give you credit when Heritage beats you guys every year ,you don't make excuses. As for the game still think mitchell has a shot, but owen is more talented. But it's hard to win at mitchell that's worth a touchdown. If Heritage would have been 1a we would have won 2 championships, lot harder when you have play Reidsville.
