Lower Dauphin high school has a legendary field hockey coach in Linda Kreider. She’s won 7 state titles and somewhere around 900 games (can’t find current number but reached 800 win milestone in 2018).

Who are some of the other high school coaches (any sport) who also have had legendary careers?

900? How many years has he coached and how many games a year are they allowed to play in Pennsylvania?
Field hockey is pretty big in certain parts of Maryland and there’s a couple Hall of Fame women who have 10+ state championships in 30 years and are nowhere close to that amount of wins.

Well, Linda Kreider was coaching in the 1980’s when I was in high school. Just looked it up and she’s been coaching for 45 years. It looks like her team played 20 games this season. Based upon 800 wins in 2018 she would have had to average 20 wins a season… obviously they had to play more than 20 games per year (including playoffs).

Hal Hefellfinger, soccer coach @ Neshaminy HS in Lower Bucks County won 376 games. I believe Hal coached both of the Bahr brothers (Chis & Matt) in soccer, and they if course eventually being great college kickers @ Penn State followed by NFL careers.

Not my coach but still much respect….
Joe Cesari N Schuylkill

Cesari was also a good football ref and had a good little pizza joint as well.

Cesari and Shik’s Phil Lockcuff had some good teams during their day. The thing I remember most about Lockcuff was one time in the 80s, NSkook came to town ranked first in AA and Shik was ranked first in AAA. A Spartan wrestler (Richards or Rickart?) who ended up being a state champ was a last minute scratch because his brother committed suicide earlier that day. Lockcuff pulled the Shik wrestler at that weight, refusing the six points. I don’t remember which team won, but that move made him golden in my book.

348-74-6 record and three state championships. Here’s the kicker, he never wrestled in high school or college. Football, basketball, & baseball in high school and football & baseball in college at Bloom. Lockcuff was voted into the National HoF a year or two after Cesari. I don’t think Cesari wrestled in high school either.

Ken Bianchi Abington Heights boy’s basketball District II over 850 wins and state championships; Julius Prezelski, Forest City basketball, former local record holder at 757 wins.
You beat me to it with Prezelski. Also John Henzes at Blakely football. My Archbald team did beat him once but his teams were very good.

Southern Columbia's Jim Roth. 39 years, 488-67-2 and after several seasons of pulling a Buffalo in the state finals, SCA eventually rebounded with a 13-8 championship record.

As a Shikellamy grad, it is frustrating to think that he applied twice to coach at Shik in the 1980s and was not hired. Him & his wife are Shik grads and used to live in the district and didn't move to the Southern district until their triplets were older. Not saying he would have had that level of success at Shikellamy, but I think he would have managed better than the 3-30 during my three varsity years.

Football-George Curry 455 wins and 6 State Championships
Never forget his early days roaming the sidelines in a field jacket, and a Wise chips hat. Playing for Mt Carmel stomped we them badly in 1976, and then they beat us in a nail biter in 1977. IIRC, I think he let the team shave his head after that one. Bulldogs really started to take off after that. I remember him being one of the first to go a spread offense in the area. USA Today started National rankings, and he had Berwick up in the topt ten quite often. True legend of the game.

Knew how to make pizza too. Parlayed it into a nice gig at Knoebel's

Wasn't the Cesari's at Knoebel's run by a different Cesari? A relative perhaps? Either way, the family running retired recently and they had to find someone else to run teh park's pizza joint.

My bad. checking on it with my brother. Okay, Coach had a Italian restaurant in Ashland. And his brother was over at Knoebels.
