And upstart Penns Valley snapped that streak. I was there. When State High Was King of the Mat: The Homer Barr Era
The State College High School wrestling team of the late 1950s and early 1960s set a Pennsylvania high school record for consecutive dual meet victories. While winning 64 straight meets, the Little Lion wrestling program became one of the most remarkable sports dynasties ever forged in this area
Williamsburg not Williamsport.I had an uncle (since passed) who coached Williamsport HS to a state championship in basketball.
His star player? None other than Galen "Butch" Hall.
My uncle was always a ball buster, and kept in touch with Galen over the years. Once, late in Galen's career, my uncle sent a picture of himself tanned and rested, and a picture of Galen, receding hair and all, to Galen, with a simple question... "Who coached who?". Lol
It is North Schuylkill not and I repeat NSKOOK -- NSKOOK is a derogatory name used in Philadelphia for the Schuylkill Expressway.Cesari was also a good football ref and had a good little pizza joint as well.
Cesari and Shik’s Phil Lockcuff had some good teams during their day. The thing I remember most about Lockcuff was one time in the 80s, NSkook came to town ranked first in AA and Shik was ranked first in AAA. A Spartan wrestler (Richards or Rickart?) who ended up being a state champ was a last minute scratch because his brother committed suicide earlier that day. Lockcuff pulled the Shik wrestler at that weight, refusing the six points. I don’t remember which team won, but that move made him golden in my book.
348-74-6 record and three state championships. Here’s the kicker, he never wrestled in high school or college. Football, basketball, & baseball in high school and football & baseball in college at Bloom. Lockcuff was voted into the National HoF a year or two after Cesari. I don’t think Cesari wrestled in high school either.
