Mineral Mounds and Boot Randolph, now that is a really nice double header. That gd creek that runs along BR really likes me, or I really like it, can't say for sure other than I find the son of a ***** quiet often.

Has anyone played Dale Hollow this year ? Mom lives in Albany and wanted to go play it on the way up to get her next time.

I can say Mineral Mounds was GREAT when i played there. That was about 2006 though, but the layout and views were pretty damn nice.

Drove by Dale Hollow back in November. Actually looked better than the last time I had played it when it had apparently fallen on lean times. I need to get to Mineral Mounds. We have played Drake's Creek (I think) closer to Paducah. It is a new 9/old 9 course. Pretty decent when we were there.

No apologies necessary. Just giving you guys a hard time. Cherry Blossom is nice but, IMO, it isn't as good as its reputation would lead you to believe. Still one of the better tracks in central KY.

Loved Mineral Mounds the one time I played it, problem is that I am never in that end of the state, and I mean never. Dale Hollow was in horrible condition the one time I played there, was a great layout though.

Golf Exchange and Edwin Watts (not 100% sure) give you a full credit for the fitting cost on cost of new clubs. So if you are going to buy new clubs definitely get fitted since it really won't cost you anything.

Don't plan on doing new clubs anytime soon. Have had mine for a couple years and really like the feel of them. I did see that though when I was looking it up earlier. Thanks for the tip though, it's appreciated.

My buddy is a lefty. He's a good golfer (3.2 handicap), but his swing coach is (GASP!!!) NOT a lefty.

I haven't heard him complain about not finding a left handed instructor. Any instructor worth his weight can say "right arm/wrist/hip/knee" when he/she normally says "left arms/wrist/hip/knee" and vice versa.

Took the new M1 out for a 9 hole spin. Distance is noticeably longer. Took all 7 holes to get the hang of the new shaft (Kuro Kage 60g in stiff), but it'll be a game changer for me. I marked all 7 today, and I'm inching back towards my 280-ish average. I'm guessing the 2007 model burner was down around 260-265 average.

We've played Rosewood the last two years on a golf trip. Really a pretty fun course, and the greens are always nice. Shot 67 there, which is my best round (to par), so I've got a soft spot for it.

Rosewood is truely a hidden gem. When the trees mature, this will be a tough but fair course. The trip to Springfield is worth it.

Except for Dicks. Almost free but not completely. Iron fitting is free if you buy the irons but driver and putter fittings don't come with the credit.

I've got a trip with my Dad, BIL, and some other guys from my hometown set up for this weekend at KY Dam Village, Mineral Mounds, and Boots Randolph. Really looking forward to it, although the forecast looks pretty awful right now. Hopefully someone brings poker chips and a deck of cards.

We have a a large group of 20 who go down there every September. We would do the Tee's and Zee's package that the state parks used to run. We always have a blast and I love all 3 of those courses.

Are you guys staying in a cottage at KYDV or at Lake Barkley? The cottages are the way to go instead of rooms at the lodge.

I'm terrible at golf and perfectly fine with it. The guy I usually play with is the same skill level and plays the same I do.

I played solo at the Griffin Gate today and ended up going off at the same time as another single with a dude who didn't even putt out half the holes. Figured after talking to him he seemed normal enough and couldn't be bad, admitted he was bad too..

I've gotta admit, at that point.... Why even play? Practically ruined the round playing with someone like that.

Supporting people I know and having a personal interaction/service beats a similar price from some major online retailer across the country (or world) for me....JMO. I'm like that with any purchase, from golf clubs to restaurants, when feasible.

B.B.d.K. makes a lot of great points.

Never buy clubs at the big name stores like Dicks, Academy, etc. Support the local golf shop which most times have folks who actually know what they are doing when fitting, etc. and have better variety of equipment.

Lessons are a must when you are learning the game and swing. I see my pro at least once a month for a tune up and at times a playing lesson. We have gotten to the point where we spend more time with short game than anything else. You will learn a ton from a good PGA Pro. Video analysis took me from a terrible 25+ HC to single digits in a reasonable period of time. Took hours upon hours of range work and on the course, but it is doable if you have a pro helping you along the way. Just watching YouTube videos is ok, but it will never replace having an actual pro work with you.

If you want to get better, play with good players. I have lost a lot of money on the course against guys I knew were much better than me, but it made me better. Nothing worse than playing with players who are a 20HC telling you what you are doing wrong. As long as you are not a total dbag, scratch guys will have no problem letting you play with them.

Quit wasting your money on new equipment. Spend the money on lessons. It amazes me everytime I go to Golfsmith and see hacks in the sims buying $400 drivers and have horrendous over the top swings or other horrible mechanics and think a new club is going to change everything.

On another note, learned today that a new 2016 rule says if you play by yourself, the score cannot be calculated in your official USGA HC. Trying to weed out the sandbaggers, but I do not see anyway that will work.

Haven't bought new irons in 10 years but it's time. Debating between the 714/716 AP1's and the Taylor Made M2's. I think Titleist is doing club demos out at Man-O-War this Thursday so I hope to get some fitting feedback.

With this crew we are staying at the lodge. And it's almost entirely to do with having the restaurant within an inch of where we are staying. More old guys than youngs guys on this trip, so not quite as much black out drinking.

Got the MP54's a few years ago. Love these clubs. Tried out the MP-25. Another phenomenal Mizuno iron. Used to be a TM guy but will never buy another iron set they make.

IMO, it's a no brainer. Titleist every time. Play with Mizuno's, but when it comes to irons just do not care for TM products.

Friend of mine gave me a set of early 90's Cobra King irons: PW - 2

It's the first set of decent, matched clubs I've ever owned, so I'm gonna try them out this week, and try and alter the loft, rather than my swing. Wish me luck.

Pretty cool because my favorite club is a Cobra 5W. It's pretty much my Driver/fairway wood.

-Going on a golf trip in August with pops, a friend of his and one of my buddies. Been an annual thing for the last 7 or 8 years. We've always gone to Myrtle Beach in the past but this year we decided to give Northern Michigan a shot.Looks like a super nice place, courses got stellar reviews. 5 days, 36 holes a day. Lots of golf. Always a blast and I'm really stoked to play Northern courses for a change. Definitely prefer bent grass greens/fairways to the Bermuda of southern courses.

-What's everyone's favorite money game to play in a foursome? My buddies and I play Wolf almost exclusively now. We play $.50 a point, 2 points per hole w/one press per person + carry overs and presses double the point total for the rest of the round. Closest thing to tournament pressure you can get because the money adds up quick once people start pressing.

-I love the Masters but the US Open is by far my favorite major. Look forward to it every year, especially this year since they're holding it at Oakmont CC. Can't wait to see those greens eat the best players in the world's lunch.

Not false..I'm telling you exactly what happened when I bought my Irons 2 years ago. No reason to lie. I ended up buying the Irons, Wedges, Putter, and new bag for less than what the Irons alone were at Edwin Watts. When I got the Irons they were still wrapped, so if they were used someone went to a lot of trouble to make them look new.

Wolf is fun, but also very annoying. How well you play often has NOTHING to do with your wins/losses, especially if there are lots of handicap strokes in play for others.

I've shot 84 and been the big winner, and I've shot 73 and been the big loser. Drives me nuts.

Very true. We play a five-man wolf game most often. It seems to me the second low score gets killed more often than not. Played the poleys etc. with some of the crew out at WH. After two holes I just said tell me what I owe at the end.
