Golf season is officially upon us now that a green jacket has been given away. So let's talk about a good walk spoiled.

Speaking of A Good Walk Spoiled, John Feinstein is an *** and horrible when it comes to college basketball but he's the best golf writer of the last 25 years. Great books on golf.

What the hell happened to Nick Faldo? He was surly and reticent as a player. Talked as little as possible and never seemed real friendly. But he keeps getting better and better as a commentator. Seems to enjoy his job and is outgoing and makes some jokes and shares some good stories.

And one last thing. I've had a couple people back out of scramble on 4/29 at Cherry Blossom. It's for a great cause. Let me know if you're interested.

Need the "great cause" to be more clearly defined. Oh yeah, also need pics of the cart girls. Need both before I can reveal my interest level.

In order to find out your true measure, you must be tested against some unattainable prize. Golf is the only sport, the only instrument, ever devised by man that can allow you to see fully yourself unvarnished. Laid bare and exposed to a pure perfectly distilled truth boiled down to its finest particle. You will find the answers as unpleasant a task as that may be, and you will never be left unsettled. There is a great satisfaction of knowing the truth of a thing. That's why men play... because they must know.

First two rounds of the year this weekend...79/79. Was a bit of a struggle with the distance breaking in my new clubs...a good half club longer than what I'm used to, and a much shallower ball flight, which I've been desperately seeking. Missed all sorts of greens with great swings due to misjuding, so wasn't too frustrated.

They are sweet AF, though.

-I was cleaning out my garage last week and found an older Bettinardi putter in pretty mint condition. I do not recognize it, and had no clue I even had it. How is that even possible?

It rolls sweet enough that I shelved my custom Scotty to give it a go...sometimes I just quit "seeing" the line with my putters and need to change. Rolled the ball great all weekend with it, so we'll see.

--If you can break 90 with those 3 clubs, why TF wouldn't you add a wedge of some type? Pretty stupid. No interest in breaking 80 or what? Sounds like you've got some game.

Because that's your Birthday present from your wife. Way to ruin the surprise.

80 at Kearney from the blues Saturday. +3 thru 11 holes and then I pushed one in the water on the par three 12th to make +3 on one hole. That's the annoying thing about golf. You play for me a very nice 11 holes, then boom, one mental mistake and you are immediately fighting your *** off to try and break 80. Guess i should say, i always fight my *** off to break 80, but had i bogeyed that hole instead of tripled it, i probably would have.

77 at Peninsula yesterday from the blues....Finished bogey bogey. First time using a Flatso 1.0 with my odyssey putter and I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to making more putts.

Not trying to hijack a thread, but how about posting course conditions for local courses.

Peninsula greens and tee boxes are not bad. Fairways are ok but have a ways to go.
Paintsville has no grass on the course except the greens. lol

Great idea catman.

Can you elaborate on the flatso? Why did you like it so much, well other than making more putts.

Anyone taken a golf trip to Crossville, TN? My group usually goes to Pinehurst every spring but thinking about trying someplace new this year. Heard good things about Crossville.

Best courses, places to stay, anything to pass for nightlife?

The 3 courses I've played were in great shape... Andover, Tates Creek and Kearney

Crossville has great golf. All are good course imo but Stonehenge is best known and their is Jack Nicklaus course within 30 minutes. Great buddies trip for golf.

Always with family so my night life consists of musicals at Cumberland County Playhouse, which are actually very good.

Thanks cawood. We are trying to get in 4 rounds.
1 on Thursday when we get there, 2 on Friday and 1 on Saturday before we leave. Bear's Trace is on our must play. Stonehenge was on the probable list. Will bump it it to the must play too.

If you want a real tight short course.... Druid Hills.

Want a mountain course with views the Craig or the Brae, either one.

A more normal style course Dorchester.

All advance tee times for playing golf at Fairfield Glade will be secured through the Central Tee Times office by phone or please email tee time requests to [email protected]

COURSE AVAILABILITY
Members: Tee times may be reserved by telephone five (5) days in advance.

Tight is not a word I like when it comes to golf courses.

Did we play together at Kearney one time with LHF/UKO/Cole/Goober? I think it was you but I can't remember as well as I used too.

Good question. I need to, but honestly, until last year, I never really 'tried' at golf. It was always just a way to goof around with friends.

I don't really have game, well not an all-around game anyway, like you mentioned above. What I CAN do, is hit it dead straight, practically every time. Not long (170ish with that 5W) but I keep it right down the middle of the fairway, and I'm really good at chipping, so... that's pretty much what I do. Work down the fairway, chip on, and two putt (usually) Pretty much a bogey golfer.

Well, the wedge is the most fun (and important) club in the bag, imo. Driver & Putter are the other two, obviously...and you could argue the order. But if you're deadly with a wedge, and merely "ok" with a driver & putter, you can beat a LOT of people. That's been my game my entire life.

Still, not having a wedge to score with is stupid. You can get a used Vokey for $30.

If you are "really good at chipping" you should have mostly 1 putts (or your fair share), but you have to have an optimal shot & plenty of green to be able to use a 7 iron consistently to chip the ball close to the hole. I'm a proponent of getting the ball rolling as soon as possible, especially for beginners, but a true 'bump & run' scenario doesn't present itself all that often, at least where I play. And if you're in greenside rough, a bunker, or even just shortsided -- a 7 iron is completely impractical.

Get a wedge (or better yet, WEDGES), and turn those bogeys into pars. There is a reason good players carry 3-4 different ones.

Best round so far is a 81 and haven't been close since. Golf can be such a fun but irratating game at times.

I quit aiming for that hole unless it's front of the green by the throat. That's my ideal landing area, even if the pin is across the green.

Yeah, the small area of the green on the left should be the only place you play to on that hole and i know that. Good example of a mental mistake ruining a solid round.

nice thread @TruBluCatFan

I've only played two rounds so far this year and both at BrightLeaf in Harrodsburg. Course is in nice shape as it usually is. They keep it pretty well for the Ohio Navy when they come down.

Shot pretty well the first time out, felt comfortable wasn't forcing anything. I've bagged my driver in exchange for my 3 wood and feel better. 92
Second time out was a different story. Was tense and forcing everything. Thinking too much and aiming a lot. 99

Agree with the poster who said one bad hole is all it takes. How many times you guys looked at your score card and said "damn, if it hadn't been for (insert hole.)"? lol

Hoping to get a couple more rounds in withing the next week or so. I work in Frankfort and haven't played Juniper Hills before. Hoping to check it out.

What you guys got in your bags? I'm using Taylor Made Speed blade Irons and Woods, and some generic wedges (hardly use), and a ray cook blade putter.

Juniper Hills is a very short course. You could probably leave your driver in the car and you wouldn't have any problem getting around the course. It's usually in good shape.

That hole and 17 are my least favorite. At least that hole is decent, it just doesn't suit my eye. I don't like 17 at all. Still $ for $ the most fun course in the area. *that I've played

Kearney is the best public course in Central KY, and probably top 5 public in the state, in addition to being better and definitely harder than the majority of "country club" tracks.

Sounds like a good course to get some confidence back...sorta like The Brook in Versailles.

Beautiful course and enjoyed playing it, but boy did it eat my lunch. Griffin Gate is a very nice course to play as well. Hoping to hit it up this summer.

I play The Brook a couple of times a week. It's cheap and it's never crowded, so you can play pretty fast.

I enjoyed playing it...easy to score low, and never got rushed at all. Cart paths could use some work...other than that it was a nice cheap round.

I have a golf trip coming up next weekend, and have yet to touch a club. I'm going to try and play Sunday afternoon, but damn, this is probably my latest start of all time.
