Ran into a buddy at the Edwin Watts store on Richmond rd and he had just got one installed on his putter. I took some practice swings with it and it seemed pretty nice. My putter needed a new grip so I forked over the $35 for the exact same one. This Flatso is the one that has some type of weight at the top of the grip that is supposed to keep it smooth, and like I said, first time out I made a bunch of putts. Everything stayed online and anything I missed scared the hole as well. Might have been first timers luck and the golf gods will pay me back next time I have money on the line, but I highly doubt that will be the case.

And as far as Crossville is concerned, I have been there 4-5 times and have enjoyed it every time. Definitely need to play the Nicklaus course, but all the other ones mentioned are fun as well. Great views from the signature holes of the Stonehenge, and the Brae and Craig.

Went to Lakeside today and spent an hour on the greens just practicing distance control and long lag puts. 10 balls from 30 feet. Made myself do it until I could made all 10 in two putts or less. Harder than it sounds.

I lose so many strokes around the green chipping and putting. Decided I'm going to actually spend time working on those 2 areas to see how much it helps my score.

I didn't mean to hi-Jack the thread with my exploits. I'm a mediocre golfer, a newbie. But like I said I've pretty much just started actually, you know, taking it a little more seriously. And I was just kind of pumped about my score the other day.

I quit all my boarding sports (wife's request) and I need something else to do. I appreciate the input though.

I don't even have a set of matched irons, so I'm open to suggestions on that; and drills, courses etc.

If you are going to buy golf clubs there is only one way to do it, imo. Go to any golf store or Dicks, whatever you prefer. Swing the clubs and make your selection. DO NOT BUY THEM! Then go home and get on globalgolf.com

If I had bought my Irons at golf place on Richmond Rd. I would have payed damn near 800.00 I got the same clubs, three wedges, putter and nice new bag for under 700.00

Spent the winner on some lessons. Needed to fix a couple glaring flaws in my swing. Takeaway was way too far inside. I cast a little bit, and am working on forward lean/press at impact. It's not quite there yet, but it is getting a lot better.

It's amazing (and frustrating) how much muscle memory comes into play. For me, if I don't have a ball sitting in front of me, my swing is really beautiful. Once I step to a ball, everything I've learned and worked on in lessons goes away and bad habits creep in. It's crazy.

Last four rounds out have been either a 79 or an 80. I am playing 27 today. Need a break from work and to clear the head.

I joined Spring Valley last fall. Wonderful old time track. Has some spots of heat-loving grasses that detract from its beauty until the heat gets here to stay, but playing surfaces are always near perfect.

Its a real active membership, although a little older. Younger folks are joining though. Already recruited two buddies to come out there.

If anyone wants to play it, let me know. I'm enjoying it.

I picked up golf again about 8 years ago and bought set of Adams tight lies, the whole set with bag was 400.00 after a few years with those I upgraded to what I have now, the Taylor Made speed blades. They aren't the top of the line, but were the reasonable step up.
Now my brother...that dude buys a new set of irons every year if not twice a year....he's a golf junkie.

Speaking of the Brooke, played it today in under 3 hours. Not a bad track and not in bad shape.
Flatso 1.0 was not as lethal as last time. Greens were very slow though.

Played today and shot an 82. Golf is a stupid game anyway. It's a fad. I don't think it's going to last. If you hit the hole and it lips out, that should only count as a half stroke. Par should be 90 instead of 72. If we're all honest here, I actually shot a 78, 12 under par. Thank you.

I think we have all had that moment where we are like "screw this game I'm done after this round!" then you hit a really nice long put, or chip one in, or have some other shot, and think to yourself "I can't quit, I just gotta fix this or that."
I think that's what I love about golf, it takes a lot and gives back just enough.

Depends on tee-time and playing partners. 5 is probably average.

Typical mid morning round is 2 on the front, 3 on the back. 4 if I'm playing extra ******.

6-8 + Vodka/bourbon if I'm playing with ABH.

It's looking like I'll be taking a day off next Friday and will head to Chariot Run. Played it last summer and enjoyed it. Tough but fair. Just have to find two more to round out the foursome.

I'm off to my worst start since I picked the game up. Broke 100 for the first time this year out of 10 rounds I played the other day. Normally I'm a 9 - 10 handicapper.

I'm going to get some game improvement irons, probably JPX 850's, but my swing is too broke to get a full fitting. Crappy position to be in. I'll keep plugging away, but it's not fun right now.

I used to shoot in the 100's all the time when I first started playing. Then one day I decided to play without drinking beer, boom, in the 80's.

I wish it was as simple as beer. I'm doing some weird reverse C/ swing off my back foot thing were I hit weak fades. I'm getting close to fixing it. It just sucks I have to wait to get a new set of clubs. My handicap is going up so I'll be lethal in tourney's this year.

Club fitting is all about the shaft, and any player will be helped by playing the correct one.

I've played golf my entire life, competitively for much of it, and just found out I'd been playing the wrong shaft for the last 8 years -- the difference in my ball-flight is palpable already.

Agree about the club fitting. That's why I'm waiting until I get my swing closer to normal. Makes no sense to get fitted when the swing is off. I'm playing players irons and project x 6.0 shafts currently. Probably a little too stiff for me as I get older.

When I got fitted for clubs they suggested I change from a flex shaft to a stiff shaft. It made a big difference in how I hit the ball. It's well worth it to get custom fitted if you are getting new clubs.
