Super easy for who? The tips are now at 7,000 yards, with probably the smallest greens in the state. Imagine the entire place has changed completely since you were last there. Josh Adams (formerly of Hurstbourne CC) is doing a helluva job out there these days.

I play better pretty much everywhere else.

Todd Deere is a really nice player....Top Dog? No, Maybe top 30. Probably 20+ U30 former college golfers out there now, b/c it's so affordable...I drew one (Zirnheld, Morehead St) for my first singles match this Sunday. :grimace:

$100 you don't break 80, lemme know when you wanna come out. It's a blast out there - place prints money these days.

Grab ShitBag too if you want, we'll make a day of it and conclude with drunken extry GAMBOL with another 18 on the Par 3 course

Postage stamp greens, really.

Not bad course to play late after being at the pool all day drinking beer. Renovations are pretty money even though I've NEVER seen the view from the tips. Probably never will either:eyes:

It's a *****. #6 is about 230 2nd over the lake from back there now....unless I murk one off the tee, it's a 3 shot hole (par 4), and into the wind it definitely is.

Hitting long/mid irons into some of those greens makes for a long day when you aren't on. When they are rock hard (as they are now), it's hard enough w/ a wedge.

My teacher has me middle on everything except driver, which is off the left heel.

I do go a bit back 125 and under though when I'm hitting low/punch wedges into greens. I don't like to swing any of my wedges over 3/4

Yeah I'd say it definitely has since the last time I was there. They must've pushed that tee wayyy back because I used to hit wedge into that green from the tips. Josh became the pro out there the summer I started working at HCC. No doubt he's stellar after seeing how Danny Baron runs things.

-Zirnheld graduated the year before my freshman year of HS but I remember him. My buddy Daniel Iceman (gamer) roomed with him before he transferred to play at UofL, I think.

-Shootbag and I will definitely have to take you up on that offer sometime this summer. Sounds like a hell of time.We're always looking for new GAMBOL opportunities. He's got the hook up at UK Club too, so that could be an option at some point too, I'm sure.

-Who are you taking lessons from? Someone around here?

Saw Iceman's name all over Oxmoor last week...

Matt O'Keefe is who I'm working with currently. http://www.mattokeefegolf.com/ He's a jackass, but he's *really* good at what he does.

...the Back Tee on 6 is back near 2 green, and connected to 4's teebox. So unless you mash one 350 and hit a wedge 150, you aren't hitting a wedge.

O'Keefe taught a few kids I used to play with all the time back when he taught at Quail Chase. Top tier teaching pro in Louisville, for sure. Most kids back in junior/HS golf either went to him, Cory Kaufman, or Greg Graham. I used to go to Greg weekly, but haven't had a lesson in years because I'm broke AF and don't have $90 to shell out for an hour range session.

and that is what I have been doing for a while, irons all in the middle, driver off the front foot, and FW woods and hybrids about inbetween front foot and middle of the stance. But as I say, been hitting my irons thin as hell, been really struggling all over though, not just irons. Maybe I just really suck

Lol ok, bub. You're the better player if what you say is true, I'll give you that, but I'm not scared. Just whenever you want to play, pal.

-There are countless philosophies on ball position. Just gotta pick one that works for you the best and do it consistently.

-I recommend this book to anyone trying to get a handle on fundamentals. One of my favorite books ever by the best pro that ever lived. Short, easy, read with simple explanations. Will change your whole perspective of the game.

Sometimes I hate this game. Played a scramble today. I love scrambles but I rarely play up to my level. One of my teammates knocks the hell out of the ball with the driver. Every time he piped one I'd try to match it and all I did was get way to fast and handsy and hit a crappy shot. Until our 18th hole and I hit driver/3wood on a par 5 and found the green. Really the 18th freaking hole. I'd rather have just kept sucking for the last hole too at that point.


And then my partner who knocked the crapout of ball won a new Ping I30 driver as the door prize. His ticket was 305, mine was 306. :grimace:

I hate this freaking game.


Anybody wanna play 18?:joy:

Playing the Peninsula in Lancaster tomorrow. Hopefully we don't get flooded out with all the rain expected. The golf gods haven't been good to me this year in terms of the weather.

Happens to me a lot. I play with several guys who bomb the ball and it always messes with my tempo. Much easier said than done but I have worked hard on having a solid pre shot routine. Actually do a little Jason Day and try to close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. It does help, but it's still hard not to try and swing like a wild man. Golf truly is a game of opposites. The quicker you get the worse you get. A very smooth mechanically sound swing is the backbone for every good golfer out there. Great tempo (to me) is the hardest skill to achieve and maintain.

I play year round so I accept that the weather isn't always nice when I play, but this year the wind has been brutal. I've probably played about 40 rounds so far and well over half have been marred by 15-20mph winds.

OMG that is a fact. And I took a vacation to St. Simons Island earlier this month, and played twice, naturally both rounds were 20 MPH at least.

Yep. That's what pisses me off. I KNEW I was doing and still did it. But you made a good point about the preshot routine. I definitely need to be better in that area.

2nd cut was thick stuff last weekend out there. They have been doing a lot of work to the course (new ownership).

Yeah I have one but I'm not always consistent with it. I'll let the situation dictate the routine sometimes and more often than not get the result I wanted.

Hell, it took me years to make myself back off a shot and reset if I didn't feel comfortable with my setup or alignment.

I really do appreciate the comments from the better golfers in this thread. Sometimes I learn something new and sometimes I just get reminded of things I knew. Kind of like BBdK saying his pro worked on his alignment. Sometimes just hearing something from someone else helps our perspective.

Went to the Champions open house today. Facilities look first class. Drove around and looked at it as well as Keene Run....Both courses look to be in immaculate condition. Trying to figure out if I can play enough golf to warrant the cheese necessary for a membership. Leaning towards yes....LOL

I played Champions front nine yesterday evening (in the pure slop, rained all day long). Greens will be awesome by EOY or by first of next year for sure. Felt great to back out there, for sure. Go ahead and join, I guarantee you won't regret it.

Lost my match today vs Sam Zirnheld (Morehead)...on 18. Turned at 2 under, and had him up 2 after 12...but my erratic driver caught up with me. 18 drive found a tree root..Brutal. :cry:

Lowest I have ever been under in a given round -3.

What grip do you fellas use?

When I started back playing relatively seriously in 99 I was a baseball grip, switched within a couple years to overlapping and as we speak have just switched this year to interlocking.

Do you guys wear a glove? I never do unless it's raining and do have two rain gloves in the bag.

I do grip very far down on the grip/shaft as well. Always wondered what it be like to come up some, but I have small hands and it just feels right gripped lower.

I also grip pretty far down on the shaft. Kind of like choking up on a bat. I feel more control of the club that way too.
