Not at all, TruBlu...

I was towards the bottom of the board at the Eli.
Partly because I almost passed out putting the tee in the ground to start the first round from the night before.

-Overlap

No clue how anyone plays without a glove in the summer.

I rotate between 4-6 in any given round...5 today b/c it was so humid. If my glove/grip is even slightly damp or moist, I have to throw on a fresh one -- I completely lose all confidence in my grip without it, it's definitely a mental thing.

-Ymmot, 40 rounds? [laughing] You sound like my dew-sweeper group, they play year round unless there is snow on the ground. Under 40 and I'm out. Where do you play? You retired or what?

-Oh, and golf gloves are one of the most extreme examples of "cheap = sucks". So overpriced, but cheap gloves simply do not work, some of them even make it WORSE, TS. Titleist (preferred) or FootJoy only for dad.

One glove a round. Take it off for short game shots and putting. Never thought someone would need more than one glove in a round

In my heyday, yes there was one, I used to play into November and December, start early March. But as I've gotten older I hang it up in October and truly enjoy the break. I don't want to play unless I can be consistent in my play. Why? Because I don't enjoy sucking and if I'm not playing halfway consistently, I'll suck.

- I go back and forth between interlocking and 10 finger. Seems like 10 finger is a stronger grip because it forces me to choke down a bit. I've also used Winn Dri-Tac oversize grips the last few years which keeps me from gripping it too hard.

- One glove unless it's raining.

Lot of crazy ways to get it done. Tommy Gainey comes to mind, AK gripped way down, heard of guys playing cross handed, Notah Begay would putt left and right handed in rounds.

I pretty much play year round unless it's supposed to rain. I have enough Under Armour gear to keep me warm if it's below 45.

I definitely use a glove and as BBDK said you can't go cheap on them.

Baseball/ten finger grip for me. I had a lesson when I was 10 and he had me go to that grip and I've never had luck trying interlocking since. I do putt cross handed though.

Unless you're a perfectionist, custom paint fill on your putter is pretty easy to do yourself. Here is my putter just after finishing the bottom.

UKO averages around 100, maybe he should read more Golf Digest articles. [eyeroll]

Lost my match today vs Sam Zirnheld (Morehead)...on 18. Turned at 2 under, and had him up 2 after 12...but my erratic driver caught up with me. 18 drive found a tree root..Brutal.

Well he might drop a few strokes now that he's old enough for the senior tees.

Sounds like you played well till the end.

In UKO's defense, did I just say that, he plays with me from where I play, which is tips on short courses like Creek, Gay Brewer, Connemara etc. and one in front of back tees on longer tracks. Id actually move up if I were him.

I know. But where's the fun in taking up for him. Let's get out and play sometime soon. I'm sure she would love to get rid of him for a few hours sometimes.

Was a pretty easy winter, not much snow. I've hit balls into frozen greens this year. If it's below about 40 the wind chill is the deciding factor for me.

Can't play without a glove when it's hot and humid. Haven't worn one yet this year. I rotate 3 during a round and prefer the Titleist gloves.

I use an interlocking grip and use all the club unless I'm between on a shot and I'll choke up a little.

Friends don't let friends putt with a glove on.

When the day comes you are better overall athlete than me (prob never) then I will move up. And how many years you have on me? You have me off the tee...hell, you have most off the tee lately w/ your new distance, but give me an advantage up, I would wax you from 75 in....not much fun in that.

I use one glove and take it off for putting and chipping. I use an interlocking grip.

These are the grips I'm using. Midsize

Same. I usually have two in the rotation. I don't mind a slightly damp glove. Feel like it makes it a little tacky, and i prefer that. Too wet is definitely a problem, though.

The MG glove is an exception to the cheap gloves suck rule.

Not bad at all. https://www.mggolf.com/gloves.asp

May have to check them out -- $20 or whatever for a Titleist is ridiculous.

But I've tried most every other...picked up some bargain ones at golf shows, tent sales, and even Wal Mart just to have my bag 'stocked' with fresh extras. It's crazy how horrible most of them are, and they usually have some 'other' black surface in key areas that gets slicker than ****. I truly do not get it, but my days of buying a 3pack or whatever of 'other' gloves are over.

-UKO's golf game is so bizarre (and stupid). A naturally strong guy w/ an athletic/baseball background, and he swings the club like an 80 year old woman. Wraps it around his head, yet has no torque, and has to hit a hybrid from 150. Just weird. That should be an 8 iron for you, minimum, the way you are built.

As much as he is a student of golf, pretty amazing he won't get a series of lessons. You'd add 50 yards if you only took a 3/4 swing, and used your legs/turn. Quit being stupid, prideful, or whatever it is that you are that allows you to keep playing golf regularly, traveling, etc -- while continuing to swing the club like that. I play with guys every week your age or older that are as long/longer than I am.

Distance isn't the end-all, but it certainly puts you at an extreme disadvantage when you are hitting hybrids in situations you should be hitting a short or mid iron. And yours is a pretty simple fix.

The synthetic leather ones are absolute dog ****. I'm a glove snob too...so these MG ones aren't bad.

I did a range session with him once at the Bull after a round. Had him shorten the swing and he actually added a quite a few yards and didn't hit his pop up to right field.

Ive said it probably now at least 100 times to him to shorten the swing for more power, to train himself to get the muscle memory of a shorter swing. That swing loses all the power and results in a drop kick half the time.

My pro worked with me forever on shortening my swing. I used to go John Daley with the club because of my flexibility but I had minimal control of the club face. Shortening the swing did a ton to help my timing. I bought the training aid I posted a link on that helped a ton. Taught me how to be more "connected" as well as shortening my swing. Hit countless balls and practice swings with this device. Its hard work and frankly sucks, but it worked. I was not born with exceptional hand eye coordination so I need all the help I can get.

If you just shorten the swing, loosen the grip, and use the lower body to help turn more its amazing how much more distance you can get. Obviously, there are several other factors that come into play to have a sound mechanical swing, but just those three things will help any average to poor golfer to gain more yards and control.

I've got a whole set of hybrids all the way through lob wedge. Use two Dunlop gloves all the time and never take them off.

I live/work in Louisville. Country Clubs are closed on Mondays, as is Idle Hour. While some allow you to play anyways, employees/etc, they certainly do not have tee times as listed above. 2:24 on a Monday, LOL. K.

Move along, troll. You had a nice run.
If you know the right people you can play anywhere. You should know that since you're such an accomplished and well known player. Like I said, we will be teeing off at 2:24 if you aren't scared.

Dude, WTF are you? I left work to come see if you were real? I'm at the first tee box.

I have only been told that about 100 times myself. It has been a terrible problem for me. Once a pro told me I was built like Jeff Maggert but swung like John Daly. I have tried and tried to shorten my swing, and quit over rotating my hips, but cannot make myself do it. I even took a club to the gym I work out at recently and swung what felt like 50% of how far I could turn, and in reality, looking at myself in the mirror, I was making plenty of turn, getting the club almost to parallel on my back swing.

What drills do you recommend?

Most people don't get near ENOUGH turn, so you're already ahead of the game there. Just work on stopping your backswing when your wrists are at ear level...or try to take a 3/4 swing -- odds are you'll be much closer to parallel than you think...and if you're just shy of it, that's perfectly fine. Plenty of pros don't go all the way.

For me, when I think I'm stopping 3/4, I'm usually right at or near parallel -- that's pretty common for a lot of people, as your momentum gets you the rest of the way there.
