Did anyone else see the 260 yard bomb that McIlroy hit on 18 to 2 feet to eagle no. 18 on Sunday and wrap up the Irish Open. OMG, that was an incredible :golf: shot.

I did. Was thinking to myself, "Russell Knox blew it, but maybe if Rory hits it in the drink there is a,,, , nope its over." Before and when his shot landed I was thinking this..

Shot an 83 today. Just cannot get into the 70's right now. Have several great holes and fall apart on 2-3 that are killing my scores. Hitting my longer irons like crap. Thinking about looking into getting some game improvement irons and seeing if I can start hitting better. The Mizuno's I have now are not forgiving enough when I am not striking the ball well.

Think I'll hit the University Club tomorrow. Got to take advantage of this short dry spell before rainy season comes back.

Scrambled all over the course for an 81 at Connemara today. Had a bout of shankalosis for the first couple of holes since I can go 2 weeks without playing and just go straight from the car to the first tee. As far as goat ranches are concerned, the course was in really nice shape. Fairways were good, greens were decent and rough was rough.

My 8 year old daughter got a legit 15 on a par 5 from tee to hole. Not bad considering it was the first time she played an actual hole in her young life.

Ended up playing the Bull today instead of U-Club.

Good news, they are working on the bunkers. They have probably 1/4 done with bright new sand and were filling in many of while we were there.

I can be the poster boy for the adage that most of the game is inside 100 yards. I've put in some work the last couple years and gotten more consistent off the tee and with my irons. But I'm lost from 50 yards out to the green. If I have a short pitch or chip it's not going to go well. Right now the difference between me shooting mid-90s and mid-80s is short pitches and chips. Frustrating as hell to be just off the green and know I have no chance of getting up and down. At this point I'm hoping I don't get a double or worse if I don't hit the green. Got to make more time to just work on pitches and chips.

Very pleased with my refurbished wedge from the iron factory. Hopefully I can have a better short game with it.

Struggling this spring. couple of rounds in the low 90s and an 87 at Nevel Meade. Hopefully the numbers will get back down to the low 80's / high 70s.

Played worst I have in years last few months, finally took a lesson. Pro watched me hit, then showed me video, and said "relax, your swing is actually pretty good, you just need to practice with "awareness" (focus) and concentrate on tempo, and hitting the sweet spot. Quit worrying about your hips over rotating, and swinging too flat and all that other stuff in your head". He did tell me to make sure to square up my shoulders too, tend to aim my feet and lower body left of target, then open my shoulders to the right (you read it right, I play left handed). Worked only on my tempo last week or so, then played 12 or 14 holes tonight, and have to say, was hitting some quality shots and at least not wondering why in the hell I am wasting my time on a golf course. I may be on the way to being cured . . . I hope.

I think the biggest problem on those short shots for most golfers is decelerating on the downswing. Practicing those shots is the only way to get better at them (obvious). There is so much touch and feel that goes into those pitch and chip shots. If you could just become decent at them, you will drop several strokes off your scores. Next time at the range leave the driver and longer irons in the bag and hit nothing but a bucket of pitch shots. Best tip ever given to me on those shots is to keep your lower body quiet.

That's definitely part of it. Had been hitting the practice green and working on chips until it became rainy season here in KY. I'm to the point I'm about ready to start over, take some lessons and tell the pro to teach me that part of the game like I was a newbie. Just blow it up and try again

Yeah, it looks pretty tough.

Can't say I've played at a place that advertises:
  • Chilled apples on the 1st and 10th tees
  • Mango-scented iced towels

One of the courses we play in Pinehurst had a huge cooler of ice water with apples in it. I never knew an apple could taste so good until I bit into one ice cold when it was 95 degrees and humidity outside.

Congrats on the hole-in-one cball. Where were you playing?

Looks like it's going to be a nice weekend to get out and play. Playing 18 today at Heritage Hill, which is one of my favorites in Kentucky. Plan on playing at least 36 more the rest of the weekend.

Played Tuesday night in Shelbyville . Started out with the longest straight drive for me. After that the round was filled with inconsistent shots, 4 or 5 bad ones followed by 2 or 3 or good ones. 80 yards and in with my wedges were my best ones. Most of comes from not playing regularly.

Sprayed it all over High Point today for a ridiculous 81. I need help. Nothing feels right. Address feels funny, takeaway feels funny. Result is definitely funny.

Just not making good contact with the ball. How about some free tips?

Play somewhere other than high point, you'll hit it better guaranteed.

Been working with my pro and we went back to the basics and I am starting to get some consistency back. What he has me doing is making very slow swings and hitting at 40% on the range. Makes me more aware of my club positions and most importantly club face at impact. I tend to swing too far inside to outside since I like to play a draw and I was getting a nasty hook which was causing me to blow up on 3-4 holes a round. Played earlier this week and still shooting in the mid 80's, but I am starting to feel the right movements again after spending time on the range all week just making slow swings. Think I can get back into the 70's if I can get a consistent tempo back.

Stumbled upon a public nine hole course out here in the Redwoods of Northern California. Northwood. Absolutely beautiful course. Come to find out it was designed by the great Alister Mackenzie, the same architect of Augusta National. Highly suggest if you're ever in this neck of the woods.

Played Eagle Trace in Morehead over the weekend. 40 bucks on Sunday. They have flipped the 9's but the course was in pretty good shape. Putts rolled true and it was a fun round. Still spraying it all over the place. Hit a cart on 3 fairway from 2 tee box. Almost killed an old timer.

I know at least a couple people in this thread played in the member guest at Woodhaven yesterday. Any stories to share?

Did anyone show up wearing cargo Jorts?

--Embarrassing Golf--

-Played 18 at Lake Forest on Memorial Day and shot a cheating 102. I wacked a drive onto a deck on the third hole and then proceeded to battle the yips/shanks on the rest of the tee boxes. It. Was. Brutal. I couldn't even hit a 5-6 iron from the tee box. I had to just drop out where my partner was and play in. I'm pretty sure I hit a few house. I know I shanked one so bad that it went over houses and into the median on Arnold Palmer. Horrific.

The worst part of it is that I was having no problem at the driving range. Nice little draws. No horrible pushes or slices.

Made me want to just go ahead and give up.

Almost gave up the game prior to this season. I had been a consistent mid-80's to low-90's/bogey golf kinda player. Then, two and a half years ago, it all went away. Was playing just as often as ever but couldn't even come close to breaking 100. Yips, shanks, banana slice, dead pulls... everything. Many times I would lay up with buddies to keep from slowing them down. Just a terrible feeling being out on the course and thinking you're embarrassing yourself.

Started this year vowing to only play 9 at a time so I can concentrate on the little stuff without overthinking for 5 hours. Don't know if that's the right play or not but I've been 44-46 most days so I'll take it at this point.

It is a little drive, but no Hombre ??

I used to always play Tiger Point near Pensacola Beach. Played East, it was more scenic. Emmitt Smith's home track and meet him there one day. I have not played there in 5-6 years but it is a nice track.
