I am sorry for recording and reporting my yardages. I do not want to be compared to Dr. Boat. I track two or three a round usually. The golfshot app is a handy scorecard tool and a very accurate GPS as well. It's always within a yard or two of my buddies' Garmin or SkyCaddie. $30 for life.

You do understand why we take these numbers with a grain of salt don't you? Hell you may be the longest hitter in the Paddock but the numbers are always going to make folks skeptical unless they witness it. Add that to this board's personality and it's going get some doubters.

I track mine when I'm out playing 9 by myself because it is a great tool. Being honest with your distances when selecting a club will make you play better. I love long par 3s when people I'm playing with convince themselves they hit their 8 iron 165 and end up 30 yards short. Just because they hit it 165 one time downhill and downwind doesn't mean they always can do it. But they convince themselves well if I flush my 5 or 6 iron I'll be long. Well, you if that's one swing in one hundred you hit it flush then you are right.

Of course. By the same token, this *is* the paddock, so I'm gonna brag. I've played with enough people from the board who can vouch, though. But yeah; don't want to be lumped in with dr bob.

^ not necessarily. My handicap, and every other good player at my club, has gone up on our "easy" course due to the course rating being so ******..despite it being just as tough to score on than a "hard" course. I'm a 4 currently, and have been around a 6 in previous summers here -- and I'd have to start shooing 68-72 on a run to lower it any more than that...which isn't going to happen. Seen many "+" handicaps go to 2-4 a month after joining up, even shooting around par much of the time.

It can work both ways, for sure. My handicap is higher now, on average, than it's ever been...despite this being the "easiest" course I've ever belonged to -- by the card. Only thing that keeps my ghin down somewhat is that I rarely shoot over 76 anywhere else, which are typically much better rated courses. Maybe it's just me tho, dunno.

But the way handicaps work, you throw a few really good rounds in on a tough course, and your ghin drops like a mother. It just tosses out all the blowups. Whereas if you consistently shoot low-mid 70s on a marginal course with your occasional 81 or whatever, it pretty much never moves.

It's an imperfect system, to put it mildly.

I just put my ghin number in a calculator with the slope rating at Oakmont of 142. It would be higher for the Open, that's probably what it is normally. Regardless, I couldn't come anywhere near an 80 there on my best day.

Better than nothing, but a handicap forged at one particular course won't necessarily transfer to other courses with much accuracy. Course familiarity plays a huge role.

I'm heading to Chicago in August for work. I'm going to drive so that I can have wheels during the week to see the city. Leaving Sunday, and want to get in 18 that day at some point along the way between here (Lexington) and there. Looks like the route will go through Louisville.

What would you all recommend?

(Hit one 340 tonight...did have the wind with me)

I love Fuzzy's Champions Pointe in So. IN. Much better track than Covered Bridge, IMO.

I'd love to play with some of you guys. I hope to be playing in Louisville once a month starting in August so I will be hitting you guys up for some locations, if you would be kind enough to help out.

@B.B.d.K. My golf instructor compared me to Tiger and Rory :pimp:...seriously, he compared my swing with theirs for comparison purposes. It was pretty awesome stuff to see. He fixed my grip which isn't nearly as uncomfortable as he said it would be (I was "strong"). Now I am working on keeping my lower body quiet during my back swing...didn't realize how much movement I had til I saw it on video. Thanks for bustin my balls and making me think about getting lessons, it's helping.

My buddy asked me to play this afternoon with another one of his buddies, who is a giant bag of dicks but I can tolerate if I'm playing.

And, bag of dicks bailed, as did my buddy so guess it's US Open all day with my wide open schedule.

The question is, how many chances do you give someone before you tell them to get pumped when they want to play? I'm usually a 2-3 chance guy then you're written off.

That sucks man. I'd probably go with the 3 strike rule, but I'm more lenient because I can never find anyone to go play a round with.

Weekday rounds are tougher so I get that. I can always find someone on the weekend but they were talking me into it because of bag of dicks and he's the one that started the cancel spiral.

Might just go solo today.

I'll be there with you in spirit buddy, hope that helps.

Today is day 8 of me not swinging a club. Doing a hard reset.

Who's ready to travel to Lindsey at Ft. Knox in the morning to be our 5th? Everyone on the list has dropped out or can't make it. Let's see who can play in this thread. Easy money.

Depends on the situation...I usually give a couple of chances unless someone pulls a complete dumbass.

I was once 90 minutes into a 2 hour drive and found out the guy I was playing with was in the woods riding an ATV drinking beer. He never got another chance.

Another guy invited me to Lakeside on a Saturday morning after a long night of drinking and failed to mention I was the fifth. He thought we could just play 5 on one of the busiest frigging courses in Fayette county. Never played with him again either.

Had my first lesson last Saturday and played for the first time yesterday after work. Let's just say I am going to be spending a couple of hours at the driving range today. Going to play Gibson Bay on Monday, should be loads of fun! haha

Strong 93 in my tournament today. Knew I was **** after nearly holing a par 5 from 210 and missing the 3 ft eagle. Still got my money from the buy-in back but GD terrible all the way around. F golf.

Until tomorrow morning because I dropped a few points last week so can still end the weekend on a high note.

OMG. Watching the Quicken National and Billy Hurley hit it into the rough and was going to have to stand on a sprinkler head to hit the ball. The rules official said he could take relief and he was able to move it into the fairway! Play it as it lies Billy! You don't deserve to move it to the fairway! :scream:[banana]

You have to be rooting for Billy Hurley to win the Quicken National. After all the stuff with his dad last year starting around this tournament it would be great to see him win.

Just a few more people drop out and I'm in the Olympics. Jason Day and Shane Lowery pulled out today.

I'm divided on this issue. I understand why they are doing it but wish they would play. But really, it's a contrived event. Golf has 4 majors every year. Trying to create a new event equal isn't golf to happen.

It would be 7th at best as far as I'm concerned as far as events all year. Behind at least all 4 majors, The Players, Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup. It may even behind the WGC events, at least the match play one.

It wasn't supposed to be a 5th major. They simply added golf to the Olympics and it will be huge for the growth of the game worldwide.

True but it is shaping up to be more like the Reno Open.

Growing the game is great but if the medals are won by Americans and Euros is it really going to inspire the next Aphibarnrat?

Will it grow the game worldwide though? I can't see where it has done anything for tennis. You could make the argument in basketball but only in Europe. Golf is plenty big in Europe already. It's not that I'm completely against it but I just don't think it will ever be that big and it looks like the players are tending to agree with me. I think the Zika virus is really just an excuse and that it's more of a scheduling thing.

Yes, it will grow the game. Especially in other countries.

http://www.pgatour.com/news/2016/05/24/priority-grow-the-game.html

Approximately 3.6 billion people watched at least one minute of the coverage.

None of them saw a single golf shot.

When you look at it from golf’s perspective of wanting to grow the game, those numbers lead you to one conclusion: Lost opportunity.

A study commissioned by golf’s entities found that 85 countries that invest government money in sports only invest if that sport is on the Olympic program -- in other words, if that sport is a podium sport. Those were 85 countries in which golf was getting no help from the government.

It was an eye-opening report.

If they want to try to grow the game more power to them. I just think this ends up like baseball and will be out of the Olympics soon. They tried the World Baseball Classic too and that is failing miserably. BTW, they vote again next year whether or not to retain golf in the Olympics past 2020. This years lack of interest on the players part won't help I'm sure.

Don't think it's lack of interest at all, but more of a health issue, and rightfully so.

Watch Jason Day's PC from this morning and look at him answer the first question asked of if he would be playing if it was in any other place in the world other than Brazil. I was far from convinced and I wouldn't blame him if he wasn't playing just because it was a giant pain in the butt.
