We don’t waste them. Concentrate them in football and men’s basketball and if a Caitlyn clark commits then let’s talk.
But at this point you are not going to get that person to commit without having the money already there, Waiting for them to commit is too late

We might as well stop trying to compete when our teams are so bad and players are so expensive, and instead put that money to better use in the sports where NU is nationally recognized and dominant. Go with the coaches that are proven winners and the winning players they recruit. Pump up those successes even more.

What NU might spend on a middlin' value QB on a team headed toward another losing season could instead be spent retaining the talent, and bringing in the best of the next generation, that just brought in another NCAA championship victory. No not that championship, the other one!

What NU might spend on a starting Center who will finally get a handle on defense in February could instead be spent on Berube's starting lineup. She has nowhere to go but up, and the path to victory is ever so much cheaper and easier.

I mean, if we're talking about winning and ROI, let's put all that money to better use than spending on teams that are already guaranteed sources of income regardless their actual results.
Only problem with that is that if we do not address FB and BB, that guaranteed revenue might dry up as the big teams become even more likely to go to Super Conference or whatever it is going to be

I will assume from your definitive statement dismissing the diagnosis of flu that you hold an MD and completed a fellowship in Infectious Disease. If so, could you please enlighten the board on what you are basing this conclusion. ;)

By my understanding (as a physician but not, admittedly, an ID expert), it is quite possible for someone to be past the contagious period (typically 3-4 days) and therefore be allowed to sit next to the team, but not be recovered enough to resume full physical activities and therefore not cleared by team doctors for full participation.

Until I hear someone quote a reputable source that states that the flu was a cover story, I will choose to believe the official NU report that Page was unavailable due to illness.
Don't forget actually having run the tests on Page or gotten those reports, The flu strains that were going around were knocking people on their buts and when they thought they were getting better took them down again

I hear you but I don't see it. If NU becomes a guaranteed win in the B1G, the power players will be perfectly happy - they all want an undefeated season, and NU being competitive is an active threat they would rather avoid. As long as NU doesn't fall too far in terms of winning the cupcakes it schedules out of conference, it's a win/win. And that's true for both sports.

The super conference happening or not isn't going to be impacted by NU. Although I suppose if we spent a few hundred million every year buying a competitive team and started beating the big kids regularly, they'd be more interested in moving on. But that will never happen, so better to just suck up the conference cash and funnel that money into our championship teams and coaches.

Have to disagree with this. NU winning only non-conference cupcake games is a horrible look for the conference and the “big kids” . Those big kids don’t want NU getting good enough to beat them, but they sure want the bottom dwellers not to be a gimme for the rest of the conference. It hurts the 3-6 team getting in the playoff if those wins are ridiculous spankings.

As far as NIL funds the vast majority need to go to the two revenue sports. This is coming from someone that was a D1 participant in a non revenue sports. Playing LaCrosse, Field Hockey, Golf way more than competition isn’t a good use of the money, sure, pay going rate, but NU has a major advantage over most schools in these sports already with the value of a top 10 education. A scholarship is worth more to these athletes that careers usually conclude after their eligibility expires. Isn’t this the argument all NU grads make here. Now revenue sports, I believe are different. I’ll argue that lure of a NU degree isn’t the primary reason Football or Basketball players choose NU. It’s just not in most cases.

Sure, no need to pay exorbitant rates just to get the best players and coaches for the teams, the going rate should be good enough to change nothing. We should definitely be spending the money on the revenue sports that way and reaping the benefits of the guaranteed revenue monies, so we can spend above the going rate on our national championship programs and coaches to keep their edges going forward as they bring in more national championships going forward - if we're talking about winning, that's the obvious way to go.

You just don’t get it. There are women players who do well (by NIL) and people love them. It means something to fans. It’s not all just about men’s football and men’s basketball.
It is not all about FB and MBB. But it still mostly is
