We had our chances tonight. Many of them. And just couldn't get it done.

Frankly I'm not sure how this team recovers from a 2OT loss to a team they had already beaten on the road to steal a few in the next stretch: Michigan State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan and Illinois.

I'm not faulting the effort at all. I just think there's a physical and mental toll from not coming away from this game with a W.

That was an awfully tough one. The Cats just didn't make plays. I'm totally confused about what happened in the last 15 seconds of regulation on multiple levels. The games have been there for the taking, but for one reason or another, NU just hasn't taken them.

The last 30 seconds of OT (the first) was the worst. Up by three, Greer commits a dumb blocking foul on a shot, allowing them to tie it up. Don't commit the foul, and you're still winning (with the ball) with 30 seconds left! Then on the other end, Greer (badly) misses a wide open three from the corner. Offensive rebound, timeout, then terrible call to lob it into Pete in triple coverage. Multiple chances to be smart and win the game, all lost.

I don't know why I watch.

That’s exactly how I feel.

Also, if Pete ends up being injured for any length of time, we would have been better off just losing the game in regulation. Literal pain.

At no point near the close of a period did I observe any realistic or coherent plan from NU. And that’s just normal under Collins.

I can't point at that blocking foul by Greer as even being in the top 20 of things I'd focus on. Trying to move his feet, touch foul, athletically overmatched. Was a great play by the Maryland PG. He was a handful and the Cats had no answer for him.

We also burned at least 3 seconds when it was obvious the offensive rebound did not turn into an open shot. We could have inbounded with 6 secs to go

I'm not here to defend Collins, but at some point the players are responsible for making plays. Nance missed a FT that would have given NU the lead with 10 seconds left in regulation. Greer committed a dumb blocking foul late in OT that let them tie up the game. Don't foul there, and Maryland has to start fouling to send NU to the line. Greer then missed an open three for the win. Collins didn't miss that shot.

If you’re looking for reasons why we lost, there were several at the end of the game and OT. But you could say the same about MD screwing up.

I suggest the big reason was a lack of killer instinct in the first half. Offense disappeared at the first timeout. Did not exist for a good 8 minutes. CC said the offense is fine and we gotta find ways of getting stops. I think we lost the game in the first half. A somewhat mature team goes to the locker room today with a double digit lead

It was one of many maddening things that went wrong. He clearly moved sideways and initiated contact with the PG. Not smart in that situation. Let him go up and shoot. If he makes it, you're still up by one and they need to start fouling.

Of course Greer was in that position because the PG had once again blown by Buie.

This.

Disagree about it being a massive egregious mistake by Greer. The way he rushed that wide open three was more of a gack to me than the foul call. I still think you gotta play defense there and sometimes fouls happen on drives to the basket. You could argue that he needed to be more aggressive and not let him even get the shot up, but that was just a great play by Fat Russell.
