I watched the game vs OPRF today. The Pirates seem balanced all across the board, and play hard. I was really struck by this WR #13, I think his name is Matt Lamm, who is tall and was getting open on a stop n' go route during most of the first half. The kid also showed off some amazing hands on touchdown receptions where he was well covered, he has hands like frickin' bear traps. He had 3 or 4 td receptions. OP ran the ball on their D, for sure, but they battled and often came up with big stops in key situations. It should be a good game vs BR.

They do play very hard and with great heart...but smartly too. Very, very well coached on both sides of the ball. Good at attacking another team's strength and finding it's weakness. For example, OPRF defense was only giving up 11 pts per game..we had 35 at the half. They rely on big plays, we only allowed that on 55 yard run today. Incredible junior QB who if he wasn't only 6'00" would be on everyone's list ..true D1 talent. Too many great receivers..one guy who started as a wide out on varsity as a soph and junior barely gets a catch now as we truly have 6 starters for slot/wide out. Very experienced defense that had been decimated by injuries plays a bend but don't break philosophy, and only broke that one time today on the long run. Team knows it's good and has a chip on it shoulder because all anyone ever seems to talk about in the MSL West is Barrington or Fremd even though the Pirates have won the conference 4 out of the last 5 years. QB, RB, four wideouts, 3 OL, 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DBs all juniors/sophs...So next year is gonna be something to see also.

It is not often I root against Catholic schools, but I'd love to see the local boys move on next weekend.

Actually, this deep run hurts the Palatine varsity basketball team as most of their guys are still playing football. Four seniors (Williams, Sticker, Hilmer and Nalley) are returning varsity guys. Then, Zach Oles, Dylan Tapia, Scott Elter and Johnny O'Shea(O'Shea played as a frosh on the soph b-ball squad last year) were all part of a sophomore b-ball squad that went 27-0 last season...Big things expected for them too this year, but may be a slow start to that season..

Elter played hoops on the varsity last season. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL and is sidelined for the season.Great kid.

Two local suggestions right by these places: Mexico Uno - great place, owned by sisters. Get a pitcher of margaritas there with your meal. Another sister owns a sweets shop right around the corner.

For a STIFF night cap, go to Heng Wing for a Mary Mai Tai. Ya see, Mary likes to drink and a Mary Mai Tai is the regular stiff concoction with an extra shot of dark rum floated at top. I'm not a fan of their meals - the apps are good and the drinks are great. They have a stand-up bar area at the entry.

Both are highly recommended.

Lamps is still pretty much the same....the giant urinal/waterfall is still there. New Nellies just isn't the same...miss the old Nellies. I was born and raised in Palatine. Live there now with wife and kid. Played PAFA with Fremd's coach (Sponsel) and then went to LA. Although Loyola has a huge battle on their hands this week, I would love a Palatine v. Loyola final - one game at a time.

Had a couple of "Special" Mai Tai's Friday night in preparation of a Saturday full of football at Oak Park and then at Marist.

Lots of PAFA kids on the Palatine squad. I am sure they would love to reacquaint themselves with Laja, who played at Mt. Prospect. .But need to get through a very tough Rice team first.

Should be a fun one Saturday afternoon.

Speaking of PAFA, for this year's homecoming any senior who played PAFA wore their old jersey the Thursday before the game...very cool.

I'll be at lamps post game or taphouse. You could always go to oak alley for some great pizza but the main crowd will be lamps or taphouse. Nellies doesn't really see much of a crowd post game.

I think Jester's closed some time ago. Stick with the downtown Palatine area - avoid the Lake Country part of Palatine.

There is a good German place in the downtown Palatine area too - across the track from Lamps.

Nellie's sucks now.

Getting the thread back on point...Any Palatine fans out there, a good way to get hyped for tomorrow's game is to check out Chris Owen's weekly recap video from the OPRF game ->
