I was just told that Pardon broke his hand against Wake Forest and had surgery yesterday.
Anyone have confirmation?

The problem is we didn't sign a 5th-year transfer center, which means we are basically f***ed.
We might have been f'd anyway. If our last two 5th-year transfer centers are any indication, finding one that can contribute in major ways is pretty difficult.
I'm praying you're right.I'm not a doctor, but I have broken a bone in one hand and dislocated a finger in the other. I recall it being about 6 weeks for the broken hand to heal up enough for me to return to contact sports. Not sure how surgery would affect that timeline, but if this news is accurate I would guess that we'll have Pardon back for most of the B1G slate.
I hear you, though I'd settle for one who could contribute in even a minor way. Benson, sadly, isn't close to being ready. And I love Skelly as a 4, but a full-time Big Ten center he is not. Pardon is a game-changer with his blocks and rebounding and put baks on offense, so this sucks big-time but is entirely predictable to anyone who has been rooting for this program for the last two decades.
Looks like it's wait until next year, again. First Rap, then Falzone and now Pardon, think that's to much to overcome.

Before we all jump off the overpass on Central Street, has this been confirmed yet?
Well I think there is an important difference between broken bone in the hand vs in the finger, which someone above said they might have seen? Also by no means a doctor, but while 6 weeks sounds about right for a broken bone in the hand, I think it would be quite a bit less for a broken finger.I'm not a doctor, but I have broken a bone in one hand and dislocated a finger in the other. I once broke a bone in my left ring finger playing flag football (stepped on by a cleat) and I was back out there for a game 1 week later once the swelling came down. Granted that was the top joint in the finger - for a lower joint I would assume longer to set and heal. But simple finger breaks are not too bad, they heal pretty quickly. Maybe it's messy and is worse, but if he already had surgery and it's a broken finger not hand (especially in his right / non shooting), I wouldn't be shocked if he's back out there within ~2-3 weeks.
We need Theo Epstein to exorcise the Curse. He's done it in Boston and Chicago. Maybe he'll look for the next big challenge, which is NU hoops.
But if it was a break in the hand, kind of hard to rebound with one hand being a club.Yup, agreed. The ability to buddy tape a finger also helped a lot when recovering from the dislocated pinky I had.
So *if* this really did happen, and *if* it really was a finger injury on his non-shooting hand, I would guess that the net impact would not be catastrophic for the season.
It is bigger than the other two.We need Theo Epstein to exorcise the Curse. He's done it in Boston and Chicago. Maybe he'll look for the next big challenge, which is NU hoops.
If he can recover quickly, he picked the right game to break it. Only one game in the next two weeks.Nasty! how long is he out for?
Thanks this is good info. So my completely uninformed and undiagnosed guess of 2-3 weeks wasn't terribly off. I guess we'll see - hopefully it is a simple broken finger and not anything more complex or a broken bone in the hand.... And that the NU doc who did the surgery gave it 110%. Not having him for the Dayton game would be unfortunate, but it would be far more unfortunate if he's not back for conference season. Hope everything heals well Dererk. To bring a title to the Cubs was difficult, but an NCAA bid to the Cats? Impossible.
BTW, an Iowa big man is reported to have a broken finger and will miss 3 weeks.

Have him work out with Kyle Queiro. But if it was a break in the hand, kind of hard to rebound with one hand being a club.
Think of the bender Theo would have to go on after getting that one done. Is Jed ready? To bring a title to the Cubs was difficult, but an NCAA bid to the Cats? Impossible.
Good thing he wasn't tubing yesterday.I am far from a doctor, but I can only tell you about my personal experience. I broke a finger about 15 years ago while tubing behind a boat. As I was falling off the tube, my finger got stuck in the handle of the tube and dragged me for a short amount of time before it just snapped. I broke it so bad that I had to have surgery and six weeks of physical therapy, and it was probably 8-10 weeks before it was good to go. And to this day, I still can't even get close to straightening the finger all the way.

Ash can cover for Derek for a while! No doubt! or Ben Johnson, if he still has a year left of eligibility!

Would be great if someone on WildcatReport or one of the other sites could... do some reporting.Wonder when the official word come down or will it?
