Best defensive lineup?
Mac, Lindsey, Lump, Skelly, Pardon? Thing is, this line up can score, board and assist. I'm still waiting to see Skelly shoot from the three - based on the Glades report...
Pardon is an athletic center who has a 7'2" - 7'3" wingspan and has large and soft hands. He also has very quick feet. Benson is also a talented all-around center and appears to have a back to the basket skills plus a good touch. What we are seeing is every successive year Collins is bringing in talented and may more talented level of players. He is building a great foundation for sustained success. Now, please be aware that Pardon is a true freshmen and UNL was a great matchup for him with no true centers on the squad. Pardon is due for some inconsistent play as every freshmen does so let's not jump off the bandwagon if he has some rough patches. But what I have seen is a solid and smart player who knows how to position himself around the hoop. He was a two time Ohio State basketball champion and played well in the championship game with 9 blocks and is not afraid of the moment meaning he does not shy away from wanting the ball and making the little game winning play at the end of the game. Collins said after the game (jokingly, of course) that he is making him look foolish for wanting to redshirt hint this season. Jon Rothstein the CBS basketball insider had at least a paragraph on Pardon in his national column on cbssports.com.

Sure, I love Lumpkin. I think he's our best defender and love his hustle. I just don't think we should put him up against 6'8 and 6'9 guys who outweigh him by 20 or 30 lbs and have him guard 2's and 3's instead where I think he'll be even more effective. Lumpkin played the 4 by need. Now, the need is no longer there.
Next season, it could be Brown (if his D is even somewhat close to his scoring prowess), Law, Lumpkin, Skelly and Pardon - but I doubt that we would ever see that lineup (might see something close to that in limited situations where CC really wants to clamp down on DD).
But think CC most of the time will have certain combos at the F position - say, Law/Taphorn, Lumpkin/Falzon or Skelly/Rap - getting a more defensive oriented F paired up w/ a more offensively oriented F.
But, but, but... Pardon was only a 3-star and a lightly recruited one at that so he can't be very good.
Rowley and Mirk had better offers so there's no way Pardon can ever be better than them.
Well, if you figure out why college athletes in both football and basketball play the way they do on any given day, just let me know. It looks as if the B1G is about to wind up a 5-5 football bowl season in which the two teams that played for the league championship got beat by a combined 83-16, not to mention our trouncing. I actually didn't expect the league to win five of the bowl games, but the way it came about is bizarre. Basketball teams are Jekyll and Hyde from one game and even one half to the next.
