...barely had 100,000 attend their spring game.
Pathetic... ...a couple hundred people don't attend and they only have 5 digit attendance.

They must not have much to do in Columbus and Athens to draw that much for a football practice? Two more places to put on the "Don't Go on Vacation There" list.
I moved to north central Ohio a few years ago after living in WV all my life. There is a boatload of stuff to do in Columbus. There is also a boatload of people, in and around Columbus. It is a numbers game West Virginia can never hope to match. There are already more people in the Columbus metro area (2 million) than the whole state of WV. Major banking and corporate headquarters call Columbus home, State Government is there, at least 3 colleges including OSU, and most of the small towns around Columbus have small colleges and universities and growth is off the chart in every direction. They don't have mountains and valleys to build around and the city is growing at a crazy pace. The Arena District, German Village, the Short North, Major and minor league sports arenas, crossroads of two major interstates, concerts large and small every weekend, small clubs with live music everywhere, at least five completely restored old theaters, huge amounts of greenspace and parks, Thriving farmers markets in every town and neighborhood, bike trails, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, plays, at least 3 very large recreational lakes, two big rivers, museums and conservatories, giant convention centers, a major zoo and amusement parks, hundreds of golf courses, high school campuses that are better equipped than lots of small colleges in WV. I love my home state of WV, but the terrain there will probably never allow the scope of development i see over here in Central Ohio. All that flat land puts up little resistance to the developers. I wish WVU could sell out their venues like OSU and Kentucky do. Hell, Kentucky sells out their midnight madness basketball practice and they seat 26,000 in that place. They leave season tickets in their wills at UK. Admit it. You would love to see WVU fans come out in these kinds of numbers. They must not have much to do in Columbus and Athens to draw that much for a football practice? That's all nice and everything, but it's still frigging Ohio, and Ohio sucks.I moved to north central Ohio a few years ago after living in WV all my life. You've obviously never been to Athens.
Not that I doubt what you're saying at all, but when the hell is there enough time to enjoy that stuff when it's ball-blasting cold 300 days of the year? There is a boatload of stuff to do in Columbus. Truthfully, I would say our national reputation for fan support is better than the actual reality. However, it's equally true that their legacies of success at those schools create a self-fulfilling prophecy that WVU simply can't match even if we had a larger population base. If Mountaineer football or basketball had the last 20 years that Ohio St football or Kentucky basketball did, then you'd better believe our numbers would be a lot bigger than they are. Just look at interest in Oregon football prior to the last 20 years for evidence.I wish WVU could sell out their venues like OSU and Kentucky do. I really am beginning to hate winter. We are in the Central Highlands of Ohio, which sort of reminds me of the land around Cuzzart (near Bruceton Mills). Spring is beautiful, fall is beautiful, most of the summer is good until it gets above 90 or so. Winter though, and my 900 foot long driveway..., are starting to suck bigtime. I pretty much stay on the farm and don't go down to Columbus much. I am not that interested in hordes of people and spending money on **** I don't need, but as cities go, I've seen a lot worse. Property taxes here are stupid though. Especially anywhere near a good school district. If it weren't for the wife's grandkids we would probably move someplace warmer. I can't tell any difference between the people here and the people in West Virginia. Lots of nice folks and enough ******** to remind you to stay alert. Lots of ramps though! ACRES of ramps and nobody in Ohio eats them. Not that I doubt what you're saying at all, but when the hell is there enough time to enjoy that stuff when it's ball-blasting cold 300 days of the year?
