I liked the play in the 2nd half, and I thought we were the clear dog in this game coming in. As far as this team and this coach, I’m more encouraged after watching the entire game.

HOWEVER…

I’m the last guy to debate that this PROGRAM isn’t as bad as it’s been in at least two decades, if not, since before Denny’s arrival. Any satisfaction I feel is because the bar is about as low as we can set it.

And you know who I hold accountable for that…

Remains to be seen if it was a bad hire. However his lack of recruiting guard transfers in year 1 was a complete and total fail.
So when a team is bad there's plenty of blame to go around.

I don't think he passed on guards by choice. You can't duct tape them and throw 'em in your trunk and tell them there's not gonna be a post season ban. But now all that's over so let's see what he brings in moving forward.

I actually think Lands showed some handles you can play him back there and that's what I bet they do. You can get by with El, James, and Lands. James actually played a very strong ballgame and hit a big shot late. I really like his effort out there too.

You can't let them go on an 18-2 run you gotta burn a time-out.
And you gotta get more than 0 out of Syd.

But I don't think we need to waste a lot of emotion on this team because they just aren't very good so there's no reason to stress. Let's just hope James stays healthy and likes it here and doesn't transfer I like this kid's game.

1-2 games? I’m gonna save this post.
You can't take that stupid **** seriously. There's no doubt this first season is going to be tough, but does anybody really think a power 5 conference team would go 2 - 28?

Mark my words. This Louisville team will have some upsets of their own.

Yeah they let that game get away in the 1st half. In the 2nd half they played much more relaxed the D was better.

It's gonna be a long year though.

I think we win at least 10 games this year. Wouldn’t surprise me if we get better throughout the season, and win a few unexpected games. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride of a season, but I’m gonna watch every game. This is what a rebuild looks like once vindicated of the dark ncaa cloud. Time will tell, but I’m on the positive side/glass half full that things will ultimately get better.

Lands is very, very limited on defense. El played 40 minutes tonight. I just find it hard to believe that with the onetime transfer rule there wasn’t some dude out there that would’ve jumped at the chance to play at UofL and provided some quality minutes. Frankly, the main reason I’m stressed is that I feel like a fool for getting season tix this year. Could’ve saved some coin.

Also, keep in mind that the team that beat us is in the midst of a 4 year tourney ban.
Yeah I think we all know we shouldn't be losing an exhibition or to these guys they had new faces too.

The NCAA destroyed the program it was just a gradual fade. We were able to hang on a year or two with Rick's guys and that COVID year team was good.

But the reality is Mack's big recruiting class was pretty much a bust and he mailed it in and left Josh holding the bag.

Yes, they are all limited. A few play in spurts because they just aren't good enough to give you that solid 30 min.

We will never know for sure what happened with the portal but a few guys we chased said they wanted to play for the Final 4 and if you are being honest with or without potential sanctions you're 13-19 and losing a lot off that you're not even close to the NIT Final 4 with what you're holding late Spring and now.

We've gradually got humbled now we bottom out and we just need more horses and try to get the guys we have to play better as the season progresses.

Mike James can hoop I like his game remember he's coming off injury and just a FR. Let's see if Kenny can add a few guys in this mold. You can tell James didn't like losing and he made some good plays out there.

But this team overall, forget about it.

Its not just this team, but.........Louisville has just one NCAA Tournament victory since 2015. I know the dark cloud of the NCAA was over Louisville head for years. Hopefully this team will improve over the season

UofL.....for some odd reason has never been a good team until they score at least 70 points in a game. when they reach that mark i know they have a good chance of winning games.

Our roster is mostly four star kids...
Yeah, should be enough to beat Bellarmine and some other teams they will probably lose to this year and lost to in recent years.

Not all 4s are the same. It's a wide net.

Most of these 4s are lower end 4s, and once you get down there it's not can't miss. Yes there is some talent there, but one of your studs Withers is 103 in his class on this site. Context, George Goode was 101. It's a bunch of guys in that Akoy Agau, Zach Price, Kevin Ware, George Goode range. Mostly. But you also can get a Jordan Nwora down there too.

Your FR are in the 80-90 range so they aren't supposed to help you right away. Stand alone each guy on the team has some talent, when you roll it up in your pot maybe not enough though. So you might see it in spurts. I feel like Withers is the perfect example of that. In stretches he looks like a stud, but then there are other stretches where he pulls your hair out.

Now you do have the TN transfer as your jewel. He wasn't impressive in exhibitions but gave a little in the 2nd half last night. He was 36. More context. Rakeem Buckles was also #36. But Huntley-Hatfield also just got here, and your next guy up is in the high 60s. I'm not sure where Ellis fits but do know he was a top JUCO, yes.

I don't mean to slam on these guys I really liked what we saw out of James. Going to enjoy watching him hopefully we keep this kid for years. Wheeler got it going a little. Lands can handle the ball.

Mitigating factors, injuries. Some of these guys are also on their 3rd HC, the JUCO guys their 4th.

Ups and downs. Spurts.

This game wasn’t a talent issue. They were outplayed.

The positives are the have gotten better each game. The 2nd half was better. The played really hard in 2nd half.

The negatives are the bigs are currently soft. Really lack an intensity. There is nothing behind Ellis. Can’t play defense because he can’t get in foul trouble.

It hard to envision them improving enough to be competitive against ACC competition.

I haven't seen this entire team play much of course but if somebody gave me control I might play Lands and James together at guard when I need to rest Ellis.
I'm for whatever helps this team offensively. Hell,I'm 61 and I played point back in the day😅
Still got four years eligibility too, even though I've already got my degree 🙃

This is not our big brother's Bellarmine program anymore. These guys coming off a snub(they earned their right to dance last year) that's just written into the rules and staring at a couple more seasons of the same, probably never would've had this one circled on the calendar. Not anymore.

Still....we supposed to be the ACC!

Well they were picked to run 13th in the ACC and that's exactly what they look like.

Agree with everything you posted.

If you had just a little more talent though, you might have been able to overcome and sneak away with the W. If you have an alpha take over down the stretch yes you might walk out of there with a W.

Your top 3 are 2 JUCOs and a dude rated 103 in his class.
You got 2 other young kids coming off injury in that mid 4* range.
You have 2 new FR low end 4* range.
And you have 1 low end 4* that can give you a little lift off pine.

Your highest guy I think is Huntley-Hatfield and his raking is the same as Buckles.

But no that is not an excuse to losing to Bellarmine or future losses to lessers either.

And mitigating factors. Not putting any stress on it when it's this bad. Just shooting some breeze on my day off.

Old expression: You have to learn how to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you run.

This team is learning how to crawl. Any coach, and a first year HC KP, is going to struggle with this group. Having patience is a vast understatement at this point in time....there it is. Complaining about the status of this team is beyond fruitless and a giant waste of energy.

Small incremental improvement is what I will be looking forward too; and effort and good team attitude. Anything more would be a miracle.

As CHS would often say: " We played like dogs today...but they are my dogs". Pretty much sums it all up.

Yeah, I'm kinda all over the place this morning, as is usually the case after any loss. The one thing that I keep telling myself is that Scotty has a nice little program over there and they absolutely take the court every game thinking W.
We weren't playing Bellarmine from 20 years ago, even 10. They're all grown up.

This team has looked like absolute trash in all three games. The worst thing is they look poorly coached. Not sure I see much hope at all and the sad part, at least for me, is that apathy set in a couple of years ago.

Thought he was a 5 star ?
I did see that on scout agree yes.. over here he was a 4 and #36 in his class. I can absolutely agree we should have expectations for him.

No doubt the team needs that guy to play up to or somewhere near his ranking, whichever site we peg him.

We saw a flicker in 2nd half.

I was honestly hoping he'd walk in here and immediately get us that 15 & 10 per. Maybe he will do it? It's up to him, he is going to get all the minutes he can handle. Yes.

I'm not gonna say that BHH couldn't play better but he played 22 minutes, 4-4 FG, 1-1 3pnt, 9points, 10 rebs, and 3 assists.

That's a pretty good stat line for a new guy.

It was a step in the right direction. On a vintage UofL team with a few more horses you'd take that all day.

If the scouts peg him as far and away being your most talented player we got to get him more than 4 FG attempts per IMO, we need this guy in the mid teens or higher in PPG.

I'm not sure what the half court offense is going to get him. Maybe he needs to be more assertive. And if he can't get it in the flow go get it off the backboard.

Seeing flashes. It's up to him. When he was off the floor it did hurt the team so they do seem to need this guy in the mix.

The 5 minute scoring lapse in the first half looked reminiscent of a lot of teams over here in the last 5 years or so. Meanwhile, the Knights were extending their lead.
That's when you have to get to the free throw line. Call a play, recognize it's happening and evolve as a unit.

I really do come here in peace . I'm not an A hole UK fan like some. But what were you guys thinking hiring Payne as the HC? I watched last night and I didn't see any schemes of any kind and you all looked in worse shape than last year physically . I was baffled when the hire was announced . I was expecting maybe Cronin, Davenport , or maybe even a hard push for Mussleman. Was the admin pressured to make this hire by the city ?

You all do not look like the Louisville we all knew. I'm used to you guys wearing teams down and running them up and down the court .

Not ready to give up on KP yet, but so far, very disappointing off-season/pre-season. We absolutely should have taken our best shot at Mussleman.

I agree. He plays as close to Pitino ball as you can get. I have watched the last 3 games that you all have played and it isn't anything close to the Louisville we all know. Even as a rival fan , it's kind of sad . I remember when you all would just wear teams down and press the hell out of them until you could force your will on them . Like I said, I never understood this hire from the start. It is and was bizzare to me
