Just saw on ksr where pt tweeted out to drew barker saying he was excited to watch him ball out, and that he was behind him 100%. I agree with the majority, it's time for barker to start. But what a classy move by pt. May not be our best option at qb, but he is an absolutely wonderful representative of the university.

I love the kid. His parents raised him right. Here's what I wonder. What kind of a player could he be at the tight end position? He's very athletic for his size, and he has almost Rob Gronkowski size.

I truly do wonder if tight end wouldn't be in his best interest. Physically, he's a specimen for the position. And correct me if im wrong, wasn't Antonio Gates a college basketball player that found his way in the NFL?

I was correct, Antonio Gates didn't play college football, and signed with the chargers as an undrafted free agent after scouts told him he had no shot in the nba. Would love to see towles consider a position switch, as i'd hate to see him spend his final season on the bench.

A true team mate. I just gained a ton of respect for him. Although his play has been lacking too often, his dedication to this program has been tremendous.

My criticisms have been strictly about his performance, not his character.

I have been as hard on him as anyone. But I'm with you. My anger was directed at his performance and not his character. I don't know where he goes from here but he wasn't playing well at the QB position.

Pat isn't done "balling out"...

DB needs to get his snaps in...but the competition will be open this off season...and if Pat doesn't get the nod or transfer, I think we could see more of a 2 QB system next season...

I think we've needed more 2 QB offense this season...some relief for Pat and a different pace for the offense may have been what was needed at times...

also wish there would have been more of a QB run attack...Pat's a big naturally gifted athlete with some wheels...he can make plays outside of the pocket in the right situations...

this catastrophe isn't all on pat...it's on the WRs, Oline, RBs, and coaching staff as well...

maybe he could get a look at TE/Split End this off season as well if DB wins it out right...he's too good of an athlete to be holding a clipboard...running him and conrad down the seams in a two TE attack may be the ticket...

By all accounts, a great kid. This program needed him to succeed and be a high NFL draft pick. It just hasnt happened. Lets hope he works on the cerebral part of the position during the offseason and comes back and becomes the success story we all want him to be.

My thoughts exactly. I could be completely wrong, and he may have stone hands, but he has big time tight end written all over him imo.

Imagine the damage that could be done with 2 tight end sets with pt and conrad. Run them opposite of each other in cross routes. If you actually get them the ball and pound the middle of the field, the safetys have to pick their poison. Do they help on our outside receivers and keep getting the middle of the field gashed by our tight ends, or do they cover them and leave our talented receivers in 1 on 1 situations? Add in the play action pass and you also open up room for boom. I think drew could pick a defense apart with that scenario.

I think Pat knows this will blow over. Sure Barker will win vs Charlotte, but wait until he gets the end of the season for losing to UL. Fans will have all offseason to let that hate seed in before next year!

Pat is a team player first. He has done everything asked of him to be the best he can be. That said, Drew won't be the savior of UK football, but will grow into a true SEC QB with his leadership and, yes, gunslinger mentality. Be ready for great plays and numerous errors. At the end of the day, Drew's great plays will define his legacy.

Derrick Ramsey was a QB at UK and became a tight end in the NFL. Maybe Towles could do the same.

Stoops gave Towles absolutely every possible chance and then some to keep the job. Glad to know he understands that. I'm sure his parents saw it and doubt they're bitter either.

One thing about Patrick,he can never say he was not given a chance.Nice gesture on his part regarding Drew getting a chance.I often wonder what the qb situation would have been had Brown stayed. After all,Barker was recruited heavily by UK and he played an instrumental role in getting other recruits on board.

A little OT for this board......but, wasn't Anthony Epps mentioned as a NFL tight end after his b'ball days at UK?

Remember James Whalen? As good as he was, the NFL said he was too small. You have to be a gorilla to be an NFL tight end these days.

Patrick is 6'5 and nearly 250 pounds. I could easily see him packing on another 10 plus pounds of muscle. Physically he would be a very good fit as an NFL tight end.

He would have been killed in the NFL at tight end playing at 6'2 182................maybe you we're thinking DB.

I wish Towles all the best. He seems like a good guy. I hope he makes it in the pros, but his long term future has been laid out for awhile now.

At the same time, Tamme has been a consistent tight end in the NFL at just 230 pounds compared to Whalen who was 240. I think Whalen's problem was more about speed than it was about size. The question is whether Towles would have the proper speed and blocking ability to become an every down tight end.

That's what I think too...but for some reason the talk of Epps trying to play TE in the NFL keeps rattling around in my brain. But that's part of the problem, too much rattling around.

From all that I have heard, PT is just as you have described him!!!
Just my opinion here, but I think the coaching staff is as much to blame for PT's poor showing because of their off. scheming & utilization of our skill players during in game play!

Kid is probably preparing as if he is going to play. Sounds like he is keeping his head up. He is one play away...

Ramsey was without a doubt the worst passing QB I've ever seen play at UK. He was big, it was either hand it off or run. I think there could have been lineman that could throw the ball better than he could.

Towles future, assuming Barker takes over the starters role on a more permanent basis, will be directly affected by how the new QB recruits perform when they get on campus.

I think Towles deserves about 20% blame for the offensive short comings...

5% Boom acting like a jackass
30% Dawson/Stoops play calling
20% O line sucking/penalties
10% ST/ Field position
15% Drops by receivers and TE

Good luck to Barker, but if he isn't markedly better than Towles the results won't be any different.

If all other components to the flaccid offense improves miraculously, then shame on them for quitting on PT in the first place.

But he was a gamer!!! He got the most out of his ability!!!
Had he have been the qb in that 1st quarter, (3 series in the red zone), you could bet your last dollar that UK would have come out of that situation with nothing less than 17 points!!!

I totally agree. He led a winning team and was a winner. Just couldn't throw the ball. Same as Ramel Bradley, he couldn't shoot the ball at all, but led three teams to the final four. Both good leaders, without the talent you would think it would take to lead a winning team.
